  • I just heard a pretty interesting statistic. Since 1977, the party that holds the Presidency has won the Virginia governorship only once, and that was in 2013 with Terry McAuliffe.

Another interesting thought. The corporate tax cut follows traditional Republican economics. The individual tax "cuts" follow traditional Democrat economics.

        • An editorial today in the WSJ:

"The world is trying to figure out what evil, or madness, caused Devin Kelley to kill 26 people and wound 20 more at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, on Sunday morning. But forgive us if we focus on Stephen Willeford, the local plumber who saved lives by grabbing his rifle and firing at Kelley.

Freeman Martin, the Texas Department of Public Safety chief, said Mr. Willeford “grabbed his rifle and engaged the suspect” as he left the church. Kelley dropped his Ruger AR-15 and fled, and Mr. Willeford jumped in a truck driven by another local resident, Johnnie Langendorff, and pursued the killer. After a 95-mile-per-hour chase, Kelley crashed his vehicle, where police found him dead a short time later. Police believe Kelley killed himself.

The two locals are being hailed as heroes since their quick action was the only deterrent to more murders until police arrived. Kelley, who was discharged from the Air Force for bad conduct, should not have been able to obtain a gun legally, but the Journal reports that the military failed to send his conviction record to the FBI. The harsh reality of mass murders is that often only the presence of someone with a legal weapon to shoot back can stop the rampage.

We saw this in Virginia this year when Capitol Hill police saved the lives of many Members of Congress. Security officers in Garland, Texas, prevented mass casualties by killing two jihadists in 2015 trying to shoot up a contest featuring cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.

No one wants crowds of vigilantes looking for someone to shoot, but we’re sure glad Stephen Willeford had a rifle and knew how to use it. Like the passengers aboard Flight 93 on 9/11, or the Yanks who foiled a terror attack on a train in Belgium in 2015, he didn’t wait for orders to protect his fellow human beings."

How do you figure that repealing the estate tax, or reducing the pass through tax rate follows "traditional Democrat [sic] economics"?

Yeah the NY Times election team is currently projecting Northam to win between +2.9 and +13. With higher confidence between +6 and +10

                    • Look, this gun control shit is so convoluted as to make it seem complicated. Its not.

So, a reduction in these kinds of shooting can be decreased if the existing laws are enforced. We'll that's not happening for a dozens of unsupportable reasons. But it is what it is ...... weapons, ammunition and magazines capable of inflicting large scale lethal shootings because multiple, lethal rounds can be fired from them in short periods of time remain available to folks who have no business having them. Since we can't identify these people well enough, make it as difficult as possible for such weapons to be acquired by these fucktards like this Texas shooter, Devin Kelley. Its a supply side problem. Fix it.

So, make possession of anything but a bolt action, single round rifle, or single/double barrel, manually loaded shot gun or a hand gun whose magazine is limited to 6 rounds illegal. Any attempt to convert any of these weapons to allow automatic discharge is illegal. Provide a Federally funded amnesty program to pay a reasonable amount for such weapons to be turned in to local authorities in a given time. After that, just like property in tax evasion cases these weapons can be seized when lawful search and seizure provisions are followed.

In fact, take the steps necessary to ban production or sale of weapons outside these parameters in the US punishable by big fines for the sellers and prison time for "recreational shooters and hunters" who try to obtain them illegally. This approach works in a number of countries with various means of enforcement.

What the fuck is wrong with America on this essential ingredient of the constitutional role of Government to ensure domestic tranquility. IMO, the Feds are guilty of a massive fail in this important role of government.

The fall back to the Second Amendment stuff is bull shit. The negative implications of arguing that are so fucking obvious, it defies commonsense. So, fuck all you people who keep arguing this shit.

If the Federal Government took steps to end legal sales of such weapons by making it illegal to produce them in the US and then stepping up to shut down the gun industry doing it, we could reduce the kinds of mass shootings occurring with embarrassing regularity in this country by a good deal.

There are still going to be illegal sales of such weapons. That's not stoppable. What is stoppable is the production in this country of weapons, ammunition and magazines capable of inflicting large scale, mass shootings because multiple, lethal rounds can be fired from them in short periods of time.

Come on, this is not that hard.

Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. JH chased Saban from Alabama and caused Day, at the point of the OSU AD's gun, to make major changes to his staff just to beat Michigan. Love it. It's Moore!!!! time

                      • Seeing some Virginia Republican panic that their majority in the state House of Delegates is in jeopardy. Dems have already gained 12 seats and are threatening to win another 10 or so.

Republicans in Virginia getting their clocks cleaned. Let the debate begin on how much Trump is to blame. On the Dem side, take heart, Talent. Northam, a blue dog sort of Dem, looks like he'll win Virginia by more than McAuliffe in 2013, Hillary last year, and even Obama in 2012 or 2008.
