  • Cultural appropriation outrage is only going to increase. Sadly.

    I watched a little bit of an interview with the assaulted reporter last night, and he was about half a gulp away from shedding tears in discussing the incident. At that point I was glad Gianforte kicked his ass.

    Left, Right and Center...people need to buck the fuck up in this country, before we wake up one day and discover that the Trumpbillies have turned it into Idoicracy, for real. They seem like the only people in this country who are unfraid to push back, and to do and say what they want.
    I can't put my finger on it, but there's something I like about this post. I think it's that it more or less channels the timeless advice of Al Fucking Swearengen:

    [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2Q7YRDL90E"]Deadwood: Al's Take On Misfortune - YouTube[/ame]

    "Stand it like a man, and give some back." I may re-watch that show in the near future!

    In any event, god bless early voting measures. Heh. The Rs arguments that it may lead to buyer's remorse before the election date finally born out!

    • The cultural citations are top shelf so far today gentlemen. I just wanted to note that before entropy chimes in with some arcane anime porn reference, and ruins the mojo.

        • I think I'm on the wrong forum after reading the last 10 posts

          • I like a good Deadwood quote as much as anyone, but it is ill applied to the Gianforte affair. What he did was idiotic and thuggish, the guy asked him a question about the CBO score.

                • I don't really do that kind of journalism or have that sort of confrontational style, so I'm at a loss to know what I would do, but I have had people openly seething at me in interviews. Still, we're all adults now. This isn't recess on the playground. And if you're a voter in that district, you can't expect much from a guy who is that fast to abandon grown-up methods and resort to playground behavior. You don't get policy wins through fights.

                  I think it speaks to the general depths to which things have sank. The real issue here is corruption. Gianforte knows that DC is a place from which, at minimum, you can get some stock tips and make some money. http://www.politico.com/story/2017/0...t-rules-238033. We should be sending people to Washington who want to stop that behavior, rather than people ready to engage in it. And it's the system-level issue that should be the takeaway here, not the idiosyncracies of one event and one vote.

                  I just arrived in Lagos, btw, for my annual energy-sector survey/costs-of-corruption tour. It's gonna be fun to have some discussions about the parallels between here and home.

                    • I hate to say anything is a proxy for the future of the country, but it kinda looks like if that doesn't turn into time in the slammer, then there's something wrong with the population's understanding of what the system should be and is now.

                      • Haven't we ALL wanted a secret communications channel direct to the Kremlin to avoid having US intelligence agencies listening in?

                            • Oops, by 'play golf' I meant, of course, 'conduct high-level negotiations and meetings on important topics at a Trump-owned golf resort'

                              • In Kushner's defense, he is in charge of monetizing the presidency. Lifting the sanctions for kickbacks is a good plan if you can communicate it without those pesky Feds listening in.
