Turd Blossom's strategy overlooks the elephant in the room. If you say that you wanted him to stop the investigation because Flynn was a good guy, what happens if they release some damning evidence of what Flynn did. As Admiral Akbar said, "It's a trap!"

To release info if he is canned, according to the rumor he had compartmentalized a lot of things about the info to make sure a new director would have a tough time killing the investigation. There was also a rumor that one of the Trump tapes had him talking about killing the investigation. Although that may have been one of those Mensch/Taylor rumors.
