I also think acknowledging that they published something that may or may not be true and it's ok is new ground... more than just opinion pieces or rants. I think 2017 will be even more interesting based upon this approach.

I love how Trump is calling a briefing that was shared with him fake news. The information may or may not be true, but it's clearly something that has been circulating in intelligence agencies and was notable enough to share with both the president and president elect.
Of course, he could probably defuse it (not that it matters to his sycophants) with a carefully crafted statement, but that's not what he does.

I don't think CNN reports without bias, although it is much less than that of FOX news, but this is a legitimate response. I don't that the Trumpsters will hear it over their shouts of FAKE NEWS and BITCH REPORTER!
CNN's response:
(CNN)CNN's decision to publish carefully sourced reporting about the operations of our government is vastly different than Buzzfeed's decision to publish unsubstantiated memos. The Trump team knows this. They are using Buzzfeed's decision to deflect from CNN's reporting, which has been matched by the other major news organizations.
We are fully confident in our reporting. It represents the core of what the First Amendment protects, informing the people of the inner workings of their government; in this case, briefing materials prepared for President Obama and President-elect Trump last week.
We made it clear that we were not publishing any of the details of the 35-page document because we have not corroborated the report's allegations. Given that members of the Trump transition team have so vocally criticized our reporting, we encourage them to identify, specifically, what they believe to be inaccurate.I feel like I am watching the destruction of our democracy while my neighbors and friends cheer it on

I think people are missing the boat on the Buzzfeed memo. As the statement from them
made clear, it wasn't the information in the memos that was particularly newsworthy, it was the fact that they memo had been circulating secretly among the govt and journos for months. Moreover, information from it was included in information given to the POTUS and the PEEOTUS by the intelligence community. I think it's legit to share that same info with us unwashed masses.
I do think the complaints from the Right about publishing unverified documents is almost as laughable as Comey testifying that they don't even acknowledge the existence of ongoing investigations. To be a professional means that you don't die. - Takeru "the Tsunami" Kobayashi
