A sad note for all those who enjoy humorous political and social satire. Sir Terry Pratchett, author of the Discworld series, passed away yesterday at 66 from complications of Alzheimers. He wrote 70 books that have been translated into 37 languages. For those who’ve never read Pratchett’s works, if you combined the DNA of Mark Twain and J.R.R. Tolkien and gave him a handful of magic mushrooms, you have Sir Terry. His first Discworld novel, The Color Of Magic, was written on a lark as a spoof of the swords and sorcery genre. With the his spot on and deadly humor, he then turned to such subjects as women in the military, the post office, war, international diplomacy, newspapers, Christmas materialism, and many other subjects. He was knighted by Queen Liz for his contributions to literature in 2009.
Thanks Terry, for bringing irreverent sanity to an insane world.
