"Yahoo is reporting that Sweden's Nicklas Backstrom missed today's game as a result of a doping violation, not migraines as originally suggested. From the Yahoo report: "An NHLPA source tells Yahoo Sports that Backstrom violated anti-doping rules after using an allergy medication. Some, like Claritin, contain pseudoephedrine, a banned substance by the IOC and the World Anti-Doping Federation."

?I don?t take vacations. I don?t get sick. I don?t observe major holidays. I?m a jackhammer.?
As my Olympic flame dwindles to a flicker, just a few remaining thoughts.
I have watched every single Team Canada Hockey game ever played internationally including the '72 Summit Series against the Soviets on DVD. Every NHL exhibition all-star match, every Canada Cup, every World Cup and every Olympic game since 1980. Although the best of three Canada Cup Final in 1987 against the Soviet Union was the greatest hockey ever played on the planet led by Gretzky & Lemieux, I cannot remember a more dominant Tournament Team Canada than Sochi 2014.
This Team Canada may have completed the most dominant defensive run at a best-on-best tournament ever recorded, and isn't likely to immediately fade. The gap between Canada and the rest of the world remains large, though it can be dragged down by short tournaments, by bounces, by big ice or committed systems or whatever else crops up.
Bravo, Big Red Machine!

The "Tournament" is absolutely ridiculous. Neutral zone trap, left-wing lock, defensive zone collapse, clog shooting lanes with inferior talent, all designed to prevent a loss, steal a win in a one game, sudden-death elimination medal round.
International ice is total crap! It's not a coaching chess-match, it is soccer on ice.
Canada was so deep, they could play ANY team in this tournament in a best of 3 or best of 7-games and totally destroy them.
Kane, Parise, Suter , JVR, Pavelski, Quick and perhaps Stastny are world-class, the rest of Team USA, total blue-collar workhorses.
