I am familiar with the case. As far as I know, it is Whitmer who halted the project, Enbridge is willing to foot the entire bill. Building the tunnel should be an absolute no-brainer but the Ds gotta cave to the climate cultists. 60% of northern Michigan gets their propane from Line 5. The governor of Michigan wants to fuck over her own constituents under the guise that shutting down the pipeline will lower global temperatures in 100 years or whatever. And IIRC, Gretch actually said that she'd support the propane being transported by truck across lower Michigan into the UP from the Sarnia area, more than she prefers the pipeline.

I've read some of the Enbridge plan. The tunnel they want to build would be UNDER the Straits, (not laying on the lake bed) would be encased in cement. It would be built as a smaller version of the tunnel that connects England and France. Its not going to leak.

But... never let facts get in the way of a good "green" cause, and pandering to special interests.
