I Googled the "murderer" guy and local authorities determined it was self defense against a 19 year old male and he was not charged with a crime. It sounds like he's genuinely a POS person otherwise. "Murdered a teenager", however, is false.
The people who were doing long sentences for Jan 6 activities were, by and large, not what you'd normally call "good people". The larger majority who just strolled around inside for 20 minutes got sentences of like a few months, if that. The people who attacked cops or smashed windows and doors to climb inside? It would not surprise me if most have prior criminal records OR have serious mental illness problems such as believing in Qanon, sovereign citizen bullshit, etc. etc. You'd pretty much have to either be on the shady side or a little bit nuts to do what they did in the first place.
Trump also could've just commuted their sentences but went the full pardon.
There are 14 people who received commutations but not pardons. They are the worst offenders who were convicted of seditious conspiracy - namely the Proud Boys morons. They will all remain convicted felons and have served a few years in federal prison.
Yes, the Proud Boys and Oathkeeper guys. Specifically called out by name in the EO. Everyone else, no matter how violent, got pardons. I'm not sure off the top of my head if any of the Oathkeepers actually assaulted anyone. I believe at least a couple of the Proud Boys did.
I think we've been pretty clear...if J6ers broke any laws they should be punished accordingly. The problem is many of those people have already been punished way beyond what should have been.
I wouldn't be shocked if there are many lawsuits brought by some of these people due to the cruel and unusual aspect of their punishment. The Progs wanted to make examples out of them all and they painted them all as insurrectionists...as have some posters here. If you assaulted a cop then I have no sympathy for you. If you dressed up as a Nordic Tribesman and yelled after being ushered through by Capitol police...then I'll laugh in your face at the insurrectionist label.
I saw a clip of Mike Johnson on Hannity talking about putting conditions on aid to California
1) In principle I don't think disaster relief should be conditional. Bad precedent to set.
2) If there must be conditions, it should be at least related to the disaster. Require them to build more reservoirs, better forest management, etc. I don't necessarily agree with that approach but it's addressing the crisis. Johnson's proposing to demand changes to the way California enforces immigration laws. That's got nothing to do with the wildfires. If that's going to be the new norm, then be prepared for the next Dem Congress to withhold hurricane relief from red states unless they loosen up their abortion laws. This is a bad road to go down.

fwiw the Shaman guy did barely a year in prison before being released early for good behavior and spent a couple months in a halfway house after that.
Side note, this line from his wikipedia entry cracks me up and is a fun example of how the hippie-dippie granola movement merged into MAGA
While jailed awaiting trial, Chansley refused to eat because the food served was not organic.[56] Subsequently, a court ordered that he receive organic food
Yes there are partisans on both sides of the aisle. Just that those on the left view their partisanship as sanctimonious...and the the partisanship on the right is a THREAT TO DEMOCRACY!!!!!11111
Justice Dept. Orders Investigations of Officials Who Refuse to Enforce Trump’s Immigration Policies
More pushback on the US left's sanctuary cities proclamations. Globally, there may be some isolated examples of countries who do this sort of thing. However, the US is the only democratic nation to have expanded immigration policy to the absurdly stupid level that lets anyone who wants to come to the US have both access to it without regard to existing immigration laws and then proclaiming those that have entered illegally, sanctuary from (an excuse to violate) immigration law.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.
The Trump administration is mishandling this disaster! They're withholding aid. They're stealing the relief supplies! There is no food because the immigrants ate all of the cats and dogs! They are just doing it so they can take over my land!
I think that is how it is done, isn't it?
I feel like I am watching the destruction of our democracy while my neighbors and friends cheer it on
