I think all the "We want Greenland", and "Change the name to the Gulf of America", and taking over Canada talk is hilarious.

Interpreting all this I see the following:

    1. Trump doesn't want US soverignty over Greenland. He wants the Danish government to agree to let the US have more of a military presence there in the face of what Russia and China are doing in the Arctic. From the way the Danish government has responded, he will likely get what he wants.

    2. He doesn't want Canada to be a US state. He wants Canada to bargain in good faith on a new trade agreement, and he wants them to control the flow of illegals and drugs over their border. I suspect he will get that also, when Canadians elect a new Trudeau-less government.

    3. And the Gulf thing is a joke. Nobody cares what name they attach to the Gulf. Its a jab at Mexico to get their act together on illegal drugs and their failure to control their own border, and a subtle hint that if they don't do it, we will.

In other words, Trump means business. He's not going to spend his entire term giving the wacko elite their complete laundry list of demands. Like Biden has. I think even a lot of Democrats hope that he keeps his promises.

      • Yes, yes, 5-D chess and everyone else is playing checkers. We heard all that the last time.

Why do we need a new free trade agreement with Canada? Is the current one a piece of shit? Maybe fire whoever negotiated it!

        • New fire popped overnight in the hills right above Hollywood. Lot of well known buildings now in direct peril. Seeing videos of the roads being absolute gridlock in that area as people got ordered to evacuate.

EDIT: Sounds like this fire could be handled pretty well. Unlike 24 hours ago they're able to get helicopters in the air and drop water.

                • Kind of funny...Trump, Obama, the Clintons, the Bushes, the Bidens, Al Gore, Harris, and Mike Pence are all sitting together at Carter's funeral but not really speaking to each other EXCEPT they're all taking turns with Obama. Trump and Obama had a long friendly-looking conversation lol

                  • Several opinion pieces I read this morning describing Trump's announcements that he wants statehood for Canada and will use force to take Greenland as part of his bizarre negotiating strategy. Such a strategy is well outside established norms of the typical negotiating approaches of heads of states. Leverage? Liney probably correctly describes Trump's motives but, according to experts on the history of high level negotiations Trump may not realize that there can be serious unintended consequences (risks) when heads of state step outside of negotiating norms. The current world view of the sanctity of international boarders is skewered by Trump's approach. Threatening an imperialistic approach to his presidency might encourage China and Russia to more aggressively pursue their imperil objectives in Ukraine and Taiwan. Creating chaos is part of who Trump is. I'm not real comfortable with that.

Article suggests Trump is reevaluating Ukraine because he's afraid of looking weak or having an Afghanistan-like collapse of the Ukrainian govt. And Putin is demanding a very high price for any "peace".
