Facebook announced it is doing away with it's "fact checkers" because they have such an obvious political bias. Instead, they will use a community notes system like X.

I'm following a NYT's live news feed on this. It's fascinating. The harmfulness of "Legacy Media" to conservative values has been mentioned here. Reading the opinion posts in the news feed demonstrates an unsubtle shift towards more unfiltered and free expression of views on FB and Instagram that heretofore were subject to review by moderating entities. I never was comfortable with that but thought in an era of expanding influence on the views and politics of the global citizenry, the spreading of misinformation and false realities was a threat. So, what Meta is doing seems OK.

Meta's new policy is going to run into trouble in Europe though. There, a system of restricted free speech with organizations deciding what is free speech and what is corruption of that value is in place ..... no surprise. Europe is run by progressives some of them extreme.

Like he was also recently bringing up the Jimmy Savile stuff too. That received WIDESPREAD scrutiny by the media. Community Notes is about the only change that is a genuine improvement since Elon took over.

Bots are significantly worse since Elon took over but they come in waves. I'll go a week blocking accounts left and right, then nothing for a month. Then repeat. They're annoying but not a huge downside.

Snuff films and straight-up porn are significantly more common than they used to be.

Antisemitism IMO is the biggest scourge on the platform. Hitler revisionism is on the rise. Just today I saw some post with a totally fabricated "quote" from Churchill saying he'd provoke Hitler into a war and then pin the blame on him.

I also think monetization was a big mistake. It's getting harder and harder to figure out if people sincerely mean what they post or they are just nihilists posting anything that will generate engagement and earn them $$$. Avowed racists are obnoxious but someone play-acting as an avowed racist to earn hate clicks is even worse.
