There are people in those communities that will do exactly what you say they never do. Don't overgeneralize about doctors and complain that I'm painting the anti-vaxxers with too broad a brush at the same time.

Publicly what you are talking about has not happened. And I'm not just talking about vaccines and autism. "I'm a doctor and I know better than you because you aren't" has been the mantra for a long time. Some of the vaccine skeptics that you are talking about might have had their social media accounts deleted because a few years ago they posted links to clinical studies that demonstrated the effectiveness of Ivermectin as a Covid-19 prophylactic. Doctors joined hands with the media to label it as "horse paste". The same people telling me that vaccines don't cause autism told me that Covid-19 came from bat soup and not the virus lab a few miles from the Wuhan wet market. And they said it with such conviction that people who suggested that it came from the lab became to also be regarded as wacko conspiracy theorists. The same people who say that vaccines don't cause autism are the ones who are saying that racism is a legitimate medical crisis. When somebody is that ideologically compromised, I can't trust them.

There is a long list of these offenses. The medical community has a lot of atonement to do.

By the way, I'm not saying that vaccines cause autism, or that 5G causes cancer, or that high fructose corn syrup is bad for you in a way that can't be quantified on a nutrition label. And I'm not saying that we don't need doctors or an intellectual class of scientists to learn specialties and pursue them. What I am saying is that the people that we entrust to tell us the truth on these things have lost their credibility, either because they lied to us, or because the dogmatically committed to the wrong idea and then defended it to the end.
