Those two right would the leading candidates but lots of time before primary season.

          • Gavin Newsome will be a very strong candidate. The Democrats actually have three pretty decent candidates for office nexr time. If nothing else, they will offer a lot to the voter who simply wants a proven competent chief executive who isn't an embarrassment.

            • Newsom may look like a strong candidate but he's still a San Francisco liberal the likes of which just go her ass kicked. He also went ALL IN on the trans insanity which also was harshly rebuked. Most sane postmortems from the Ds suggest they should tack to the center, at least on social issues since those - SURPRISE - played a much larger role in the election than they anticipated.

              • Exclusive: Trump plans no exemption for oil imports under new tariff plan, sources say | Reuters

Most of the refineries in the Midwest, Great Lakes, and Rocky Mountain regions use Canadian crude. That can't be changed with the flip of a switch.

The political movement that has spent close to 15 years shrieking that the Keystone Pipeline was critical for the US economy now cheers with delight as Trump vows to tax the hell out of Canadian oil.

He has the full backing of the Republican Party. He has history's biggest mandate, from what I hear.

                    • There will be no tariff war with Canada. All the tariff talk is aimed squarely at Mexico and China. There will be grumbling back and forth with Canada, but in the end, the focus will come off Canada as some kind of "letter of agreement" will happen, and everything will be fine. Canada doesn't really want this, and neither does the US or Trump.

That new Mexican president could be troublesome, but she better get her house in order because the wall is now going to get finished, and with that and the additional tariffs, she's going to have a huge mess on her hands in her northern provinces. We're going to see the Border Patrol on the southern border on steroids, as compared to what its been in the past. Illegals that get into northern Mexico and try to get in to the US are going to find themselves in a holding camp that's worse than the homes they came from.

                      • There are still 3 uncalled House races, two in California and one in Iowa. The margin in all three is less than a thousand votes. But it's starting to look like the House R majority could be only 220-215. And that's not considering that Matt Gaetz's seat won't be filled until April and 2-3 other House Republicans are joining the administration.

Potentially looking at a House where Johnson can't lose a single vote. And he's got a lot of bomb-throwing pyromaniacs in his caucus.

                        • Excellent. Don't do anything. Just sit back, let Homan do his job, unfuck Title IX, clean up federal agencies to the greatest extent possible, etc. There's a lot of good stuff that can be done without Congress pooping all over everything.
