  • How many Putin "red lines" have we crossed already? The MAGA right who just wants to end this war no matter what it costs Ukraine have declared us on the verge of WWIII at least a dozen times. Sending Patriot missiles to Ukraine a year ago was supposed to spark WWIII.

    • This is Russia's Vietnam which is a win for the West. What seemed like a cakewalk into Kiev has turned into a 3 year slog with staggering losses in lives, equipment, and treasure. That was the strategic goal I wanted advanced. If Putin wants to dick around and try to conquer a comically corrupt first-world-adjacent wheat field that less than 1% of Americans can find on a map, then make it as costly as possible. At this point it is obvious that neither side will win a decisive victory so all that's left to decide is where to draw the new line and stop killing each other. I believe that's Trump's take on the issue. They can stop fighting today or in five year but the outcome will be the same.

      • McConnell is vowing there will be no recess appointments. In light of that, the below Supreme Court case from 2014 (a unanimous decision in outcome) could become significant if Trump tries to declare the Senate in recess or somehow adjourn them. Worth noting that Roberts, Alito, and Thomas would've limited the President's authority to make recess appointments even moreso than the main opinion.

It didn't seem to be a 'threat to democracy' when Algore fought the results of an election all the way to the USSC.

Good for Florida that they've fixed that problem.

                      • Results of the 2024 election summed up:

The Democratic Party...the left wing media...and pretty much any person on the left has been full of shit since 2016...and they know/knew it. Now they must pay the price. Legacy media...dead. Hollywood as we know it...dead. Democrat Party...still hasn't"got it" and is heading off a steep cliff.

                        • For the Dems to recover, they'll have to find someone who knows how to move that sliding middle in their direction. The sliding middle as I call it, are the people who actually decide elections. The radical right doesn't decide, nor does the radical left. Its the middle voters.

Right now, Trump got enough of the middle, to sway this election to his side. A new, sane-thinking Dem is going to have to get that middle group to swing back to them.

It can be done. Obama did it with the media's help in 2008. Bill Clinton did it in 1992 with the help of H Ross Perot. The list goes on.

I don't see a Dem with that kind of appeal at this point. The Democratic party is so beholden to their radical left, that a middle-ground person has no chance.

                            • The Woke stuff didn't help the Ds out, but never forget that they ran the worst candidate I've ever seen in a major election -- at least in terms of political ability. Harris is an absolutely horrific politician. When you start asking why the Ds lost, you start with that. Then you move on to other issues. I think they would have still lost with even just a competent politician -- but never, ever forget how almost unimaginably terrible Harris is.

                              • The hit to legacy media, though, is real. It also makes cries of "media bias" considerably less salient. I'll have to remember that, though saliency has never been a threshold I care much about.
