Observers and pollsters are speculating that a Trump conviction on any of the crimes he's allegedly committed or disqualification from the ballot could open the door for Niki Haley. Captain Ron has turned out to be a huge loser. So many missteps and stupid policy pandering. As DSL posts above, the news in the Sun Sentinel this morning is speculating that Desantis is going to withdraw. All signs point to that. He may try again in 2028 but given his performance in the 2024 campaign that revealed a tone deaf candidate, I doubt he'll do much better then.
I've not looked into Haley and I will but she's a long shot. The NYTs has done several polls that indicate there's a block of voters, a substantial block, that are waiting for an alternative to DJT to emerge. It is thought that it may be enough to swing the nomination to Haley.
The link is to a long CNN opinion piece that describes Haley's campaign tactics that the author believes misses an attack on Trump's extensive vulnerabilities. The author does think Haley has a chance to win the R nomination if Trump's vulnerabilities are realized, he stumbles and his delegates abandon him.
