I definitely am not shedding tears for McCarthy but boy is this dumb. The 8 rebels are all rock stupid or just pursuing personal vendettas. Gaetz is furious that McCarthy wouldn't shut down the ethics probe into him (among his other motivations).

At these times, I think it's worthwhile to revisit Thomas Sowell's heretofore entirely correct assement of politicians -- remember that politicians do not care, at all, about what's good for you, but only what's good for them. And what's good for them is (1) getting elected and (2) getting re-elected. Whatever is #3 isn't remotely close.

I think, in this day and age, (3) is now ginning up fame to convert to dollars and that is considerably closer to (2) -- for some politicians -- than any other (3) has ever been.

I haven't a clue if this helps or hurts Gaetz in re-election -- but I do know it's definitely in line with (3).

But, fundamentally I think Sowell remains absolutely correct.

How does that work? Rs are furious with his antics. Although R's who didn't love McCarthy got on board with what Gaetz was pulling if only to get rid of the speaker. I think it takes 2/3 to expel. They keep stepping on rakes and their solution is to lay out more rakes. Kari Lake filed to run for Senate yesterday.
