Spenders always have the high ground when you read the MSM. The only way to change that is for Congress to pass a short-term CR which includes a drop dead date in a month or so and which explicitly says no federal workers will be paid during a government shutdown after that date. That would change the dynamic in negotiations. (since 90% of federal workers vote Democrat).

I've read the proposed discretionary spending budget is not big enough to allow Rs to claim a substantial reduction government spending that the Rs are holding out for. IOW, looking at discretionary spending as a viable R target for the spending cuts the 5 extremist R's are holding passage of the budget in whole or a CR hostage is even close to big enough.

What's frustrating is that the method being used to block further budget negotiations and a CR is to oppose one of the 12 parts in the whole Fiscal year budget that is up for a vote. The military spending budget. This is just stupid beyond rational description and is demonstrative of how detached those in the R party doing the opposing are from their constituent's wishes. It would be a good idea right now for the voters in the districts within the states that these 5 idiots represent to start a recall petition.

That's fair and I agree but the solution is reasonable cross-isle discussions that result in meaningful compromise to get legislation through congress. Instead, we have upset children lacking maturity to resolve conflict.

That's partly the speaker's job and there have been a decreasing number of those capable of doing that. Pelosi was better at it than McCarthy, a complete failure, ignoring the big spender she was.

I think the American voters would accept restructuring both Medicare and Social Security - especially the growing number of conservatives under 40 that can overcome the shrinking power of baby boomers. That kind of work is entirely doable set aside posturing in a circumstance that demands budget cuts and fuscal responsibility.
