      • CNN is reporting it now so I guess there's some truth to the online rumors. Ukraine appears to have successfully bombed Russia's Black Sea Fleet headquarters in Sevastopal. Serious damage to the building, likely deaths, from both Ukrainian and Russia chatter.

        • Another round of congressional dysfunction imposed on it by the extreme right caucus of the R party. Kevin McCarthy has become neutered, unable to move any legislation through the House. There's going to be a shut down (it's extent overblown by the press) that will be disruptive.

I can't really call myself a Republican any longer. It has become the party of posturing over substance and governing, not to mention the alignment with DJT. Rs don't want to talk about policy or compromise. This shut down isn't about policy differences. It's about a faction of extreme Republican congressmen and a weak speaker who gives in to this faction, both unwilling to sit down with Democrats and hash out an actual spending bill with give and take on both sides. Like M football games live or on TV, I'm done with the Rs.

Yesterday, Ukraine destroyed a Russian S-400 air defense system in Crimea that, if it were still active, would have successfully blunted the attack on the Black Sea Fleet's HQ in Sevastapol. In this attack, the first wave was made up of attack drones in numbers enough to occupy remaining air defenses over Sevastapol and then launched multiple Neptune cruise missiles that not only destroyed the HQ but also severely damaged the runways and Russian aircraft in a nearby airfield.

Along with the attack of the HQ in Sevastapol, it was reported this morning that Ukrainian ground forces are operating armored vehicles inside the final line of the tri-layered defense the Russians established in the Zaphorizia/Donetsk Oblasts. ISW reported that geolocated images confirm these reports although it's too early to tell if UAF actually control the territory that images suggest they have seized. The Russian MOD alleges the UAF attacks were repelled - nothing new in Russia's attempts to shape the information space, such shaping is becoming more and more not reflective of the reality on the ground.

Recall one of the stated objectives of Ukraine's counter offensive, now 3m old, was to drive to Melipitol on the Sea of Azov splitting the RAF and making it nearly impossible for the logistics support from Crimea of RAF operating in the eastern Luhansk and Donetsk regions. Apparently they are succeeding in moving in the Melipitol direction but are still more than 100km from that city. The combined impact of the ground based thrust from the western Donbas to the SE and attacks on Crimea that reveal vulnerabilities in the ability of the Black Sea Fleet to safely operate there are substantial. Putin could be forced to consider moving vulnerable elements of his Black Sea Fleet eastward to the port of Novorossiysk, in western Russia proper and near the land and structural bridge from Russia to Crimea.

Over the last several days, reports that the Russian defensive tactics appear to be conforming with doctrine. In this regard, attacking UAF push RAF out of trenches/defensive structures. These forces then retreat to the next rearward line of defense. Meanwhile, elite Russian ground forces counterattack to regain lost territory. This back and forth accounts for the dynamic state of the front with territorial control going back and forth between RAF and UAF

The tsunami won't be in 2024. But the irreversible Democrat supermajority is nigh.

                  • Good chance the Rs take back the Senate in 2024 but odds rising that they lose the House.

Manchin is a surefire loser. Tester may lose. Brown in Ohio. And maybe Sinema/Gallego split the vote in Arizona too much and Kari Lake actually wins.
