Your take on the musical aspect of the song is 100% correct. Pop-country is an abomination deserving of nothing but scorn and contempt. It’s formulaic drek that makes Motley Crue seem like a love child of Led Zeppelin and the Beatles.

That said, the contrived controversy over the message of the song only exists because the video shows the leftist goons doing their usual worst. The song was released over two months ago with no public reaction. The left is pissed because the video reminds everyone just how shitty they were during the 2020 riots.

When people are upset because someone else portrays criminals in a negative way, that tells you all you need to know about the people who are offended. Violence is OK if WE do it! Just make sure you don’t shoot a music video where something bad happened 100 years ago.

To hear some of the commentary, you would have thought that Aldean actually lynched someone in the video.

The video is based a lot on fact. People in small towns believe in defending their lives and property with force. They doin't lie back, and wait for the community to burn down, then call their insurance agents. If anyone wonders where all the assault rifles are, and who owns them, they'll find out quickly if they "try that in a small town". Most folks out here are actually live and let live types, but if you mess with their loved ones or their property, you'll see their fighting side very quickly.
