Missed this from last week. 7 Republican AGs sent Target a vaguely threatening letter that selling Pride merchandise may violate "child protection laws". I think they mean pride merchandise for minors but not entirely clear. Pretty sure a law that bans the sale of "Pride" shirts to minors would violate the 1st Amendment. It's not the same thing as selling sex toys to kids, no matter what these guys say. That's why their letter stays vague and makes no concrete demands.

A Geraghty article on Disney, focused on the theme parks
I'm not sure he's right. He's right about the visitors dropping. Not sure that means they're making less money (he doesn't really get into profits). I think they knew visitors would fall by raising prices -- but not in order to transform into a luxury brand so much as to just empty out the parks a bit and (possibly) make the same amount of money. Back before covid I seem to recall a fair amount of complaints about how crowded Disneyworld had gotten, long lines everywhere, and that its FastPass (or whatever they call it) was being bought by virtually everyone. Making it pointless but necessary at the same time.
The only way to tame overcrowding is either build more parks (and options are extremely limited) or raise prices.
Disney Enters a Crisis of Its Own Making | National Review
EDIT: Another consideration, Disneyworld is an international destination. The middle class in China and India has grown enormously since the 90's (China does have its own Disneyland, India does not). Last edited by Dr. Strangelove; July 11, 2023, 11:34 AM.

Putin meets with Prigozhen. Some clarity is beginning to emerge regarding how the Kremlin is dealing with the fall-out from the Wagner mutiny. One of the major factors having an effect on Putin's position re Prigozhen is how thoroughly the Wagner PMC has become intertwined with Russia's military operations as an extension of Russia's FP. Putin is spinning a public narrative that depicts him as being in control of events both during and following the Wagner mutiny. His apparent strategy is to clearly message that he's not giving in to Prigozhen's demand to replace Shoigu and Garissimov. Both have appeared in videos on state run TV.
Putin also wants to retain as much infrastructure that supports Prigozhen's wide ranging supply to the Russian military while removing Prigozhen from control of the Concord company that is the holding organization for multiple companies operating under Concord's umbrella (including the Wagner PMC). The Kremlin has become dependent on Concord's many service providers one of which is recruitment to build reserves another is the irregular military forces that Putin has relied upon to fight in Ukraine as well as provide military services to African countries.
Lukashenko's brief claim to fame (claimed negotiating deal with Prigozhen) is being pushed to the irrelevant as Putin asserts himself as being the puppet master. The political situation, however, remains fluid. Putin would like to portray things are settled but pro-war milbloggers continue to question the Kremliin's leadership. Moreover, reportedly, none of the Wagner forces, in particular it's commanders, have signed contracts to serve under the MoD even though Commanders claimed loyalty to Putin, apparently not Shoigu and Garrisimov, in their recent meeting with him.
In Vilnius and at the NATO allies meeting, Zelenski has expressed some frustration that the wording in the NATO statement about Ukraine's membership is less concrete than he would like it to be. I've read it. It's pretty straight forward with the key language stating that an invitation to join NATO will be extended to Ukraine when conditions are met and the allies agree. Zelenski believes that the lack of a clear cut pathway (he calls it an algorithm) to NATO membership encourages Russia to keep on terrorizing Ukraine. Apparently proponents of a slower, less concrete process argue that a faster, more immediate offer of membership would be viewed by the Kremlin as escalatory.
In the battle space, there's chatter from multiple sources on both sides, that Ukraine has established "Fire control" over Bakhmut. This includes GLOCs and pathways for an orderly withdrawal of Russian troops in Bakhmut. The implication is that Russian forces are effectively encircled and any withdrawal by troops there would be chaotic and deadly. If Urkainian forces actually enter the city and raise symbolic flags, it will be a stunning reversal that Putin will have to deal with.Last edited by Jeff Buchanan; July 11, 2023, 11:45 AM.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished.
