Please support the Forum by using the Amazon Link this Holiday Season
Amazon has started their Black Friday sales and there are some great deals to be had! As you shop this holiday season, please consider using the forum's Amazon.com link (listed in the menu as "Amazon Link") to add items to your cart and purchase them. The forum gets a small commission from every item sold.
Additionally, the forum gets a "bounty" for various offers at Amazon.com. For instance, if you sign up for a 30 day free trial of Amazon Prime, the forum will earn $3. Same if you buy a Prime membership for someone else as a gift! Trying out or purchasing an Audible membership will earn the forum a few bucks. And creating an Amazon Business account will send a $15 commission our way.
If you have an Amazon Echo, you need a free trial of Amazon Music!! We will earn $3 and it's free to you!
Your personal information is completely private, I only get a list of items that were ordered/shipped via the link, no names or locations or anything. This does not cost you anything extra and it helps offset the operating costs of this forum, which include our hosting fees and the yearly registration and licensing fees.
Stay safe and well and thank you for your participation in the Forum and for your support!! --Deborah

A great article on the issue labeled "The Competence Crisis"
Complex Systems Won’t Survive the Competence Crisis (palladiummag.com)
Its a great article that does a pretty decent job of describing how truly complex our world is, and how that complexity demands competence of maybe even excellence at so many levels. This is vastly underappreciated by most people, and you could see that with Covid-19 as politicians around the world shut down entire economies without a second's thought as to what the implications would be.
Anyhow, as diversity hiring and promotion increases and the average IQ and education level of the country decreases, get ready for everything in life to be a little bit shittier. Bridges will collapse more often. Airplane will crash more often. Medical errors will be more common. Manufactured goods will have more defects. Competently delivered services will get more expensive and wait times will be longer. You get the picture.
In some cases, it will be a lot shittier, if you are on the operating table and a diversity hire is the guy cutting you open (the AMA now openly advocates for this). Or if you are on an airplane and you have a diversity hire flying it.
This is why the culture war is the only thing that matters right now. The economy exists to serve the population, not the other way around -- it's not inconsequential, but it is also not an all-defining metric for quality of life, which is going to be much worse in the US in 25 years. And it's not as if the people pushing DEI initiatives are good for the economy.
Our culture has cancer and that cancer has metastasized into almost every institution in America. Every day that goes by, it's getting more difficult to envision a political solution for it.Last edited by Hannibal; June 19, 2023, 01:08 PM.
