    • What you call retaliation is actually just leveling the playing field...call it anything you want...it's what loons do...

      • Are we really operating in some world were we pretend Government doesn't respond to what Corporations do, say or pay? Are there people that stupid? Is the discussion really this blithingly ignorant that we're approaching DeSantis/Disney as if it were the invention of the wheel -- the first time ever -- some real crazy ass shit.

Removing special privileges for any host of reasons isn't new or interesting. Pretending otherwise and faking outrage is so fundamentally unserious and so very much for the daft.

The contract stuff, as DSL correctly noted, matters.

        • Froot has no defense or logical argument to make, so all that he can do vis-a-vis Disney is try to make a weak “hypocrisy” argument. But it’s not a good faith argument. It’s Saul Alinsky 101. The debate over whether cancel culture should exist is settled. It exists. The rules of the game are now established and they have been firmly established over and over again by the Left. You don’t need to “do the right thing” clinging to worthless principles that your enemy doesn’t abide by.

And if you are opposed to teaching butt sex and transgenderism to eight year olds, you are standing on pretty solid moral grounds. Sexual predation on children has been universally reviled throughout history — don’t apologize for following your protective instincts in that regard.

          • Yeah, the progression is especially predictable to anyone who has a basic understanding of human motivation. Progressives in the 50s and 60s were the minority on, say, campus. They were the minority in culture. They were adamantly free speech because it served their interests. Progressives eventually came to dominate campus and, by and large, culture. And then came the cancel culture and general effort to suppress any opposing view ususally in terms of some sort injury to some sort of "marginalized" group. And then came the "we can play this game, too" from the Right and the Progressive response is "how dare they!"

And I can run the same story for conservatives. Sort of.

Anywho, find out what serves Progressives interests and you'll get their position. It's also how they intrepret the Constitution.

                    • I'm surprised at the legs this thing had. And it's so richly deserved. Not -- IMO -- because they overtly trying to peddle ideology through beer -- but because they picked such a detestable (IMO) person. I've said it before, there are a lot of genuine trans folks who aren't total asshats that they could have picked. Mulvaney, however, is almost infintely insulting. So richly deserved.

Did you read Rich Lowry’s piece on it? He pretty much echoes what we have been saying.

Some corporation had to show how woke marketing could cost an iconic American brand dearly in terms of its image, its sales and its market capitalization.

Then they should level it against the other districts as well.

But again remember Florida has benefitted greatly from that business arrangement.

Yep. And the thing is -- as we've said -- it's not like Bud Light needed to build some new segment. They didn't need the poltiics to sell their brand. They were #1. They might still end up #1, but Modelo is coming. What they did was to intentionally use their brand to preach politics. And they got their teeth kicked in.

It really is good for America. Now, there's always going to be the offshoot piggyback overreactions that have not as much traction (Lowry gets at that, too). But there's now a real risk when you use your brand to preach politics -- especially to a completely unreceptive audience -- heh.

                              • Both Disney and Florida have benefited. Disney was given land, tax breaks, and favorable legislation as well as being put squarely in the middle of a place where tourists were already traveling to in droves.
