This is a solid article with analysis of why America is "better' - by a lot - supported by hard facts. It's back looking though and it puts in perspective the risks to "better" (than anywhere else on the globe) posed by a social liberal or authoritarian world order. Specifically and forward looking the US has a lot going for it but that's getting undermined by the stupidity of socially liberal politicians down to the lowest levels of government.
Just read though the last dozen or so pages in this thread. It's pretty obvious what the threats are - talent listed them in a post, Wiz posts frequently about the threats and even Hanni's posts, if you can get past his doomsday extremism (heh), should be taken seriously and I do.
Anyway, America remains a great nation despite what the media tends to depict it as - one crisis after another, one mass shooting after another, rising crime ..... the media's list of bad things going on here in the good ol' USA is long. I'm trending to not paying any attention to that.

Well you would also think they could’ve found a couple women who had their health seriously affected by this drug to serve as plaintiffs
Data analyzed by CNN shows mifepristone is even safer than some common, low-risk prescription drugs, including penicillin and Viagra. There were five deaths associated with mifepristone use for every 1 million people in the US who have used the drug since its approval in 2000, according to the US Food and Drug Administration as of last summer. That’s a death rate of 0.0005%.

DSL:
The lack of actual harm is germane, but more to the point—there isn’t some emergency “irreparable harm” need to allow the injunction to remain in place because, e.g., the plaintiffs waited 20 years. Surely they can wait a few months.
Alito dissented mostly to throw Kagan’s words back at her. Thomas never grants them.

The Economist article on how great the US economy is is also worth reading. Greatest country in the world. Truly exceptional. Easy access to abortion is a controversial moral issue with religious undertones. It's a polarizing political issue. My view is the choice of aborting a fetus (up to 13-15 weeks) should be a personal one. Getting an abortion after 15 weeks is another story. IOW, the courts made the absolutely right decision.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. Do you think that if the 5th circuit now completely reverses Texas on the merits that the SC might even deny cert? Otherwise this won’t be fully resolved until late next spring.
Think there’s zero chance the 2000 FDA approval gets revoked. Maybe a small chance the 2016 revisions are revoked though.

I wonder if Durbin said this with a straight face. If so, he needs to join LightBrain on the political sideline.

A confounding factor is that viability cannot be responsibly predicted before around 20 weeks gestation. Jeff,
While average viability is around 24 weeks, it continues to get earlier. UAB recently had a successful birth at 21 weeks. And honestly that number will continue to lower.
But none of that matters, really.
What I’m saying is that there is much more of a moral issue with terminating a life that has passed the first trimester and that after three months of pregnancy there is no legitimate reason to allow unrestricted abortion.
In the rare cases of late-stage discovered genetic issues or other medical problems that prevent the baby from from living or so adversely impacts the baby’s quality of life, certainly, a medical termination should be allowed, but that would not be under the umbrella of an unrestricted or personal choice abortion. I’m not sure I made that clear enough earlier."The problem with quotes on the Internet is that it is sometimes hard to verify their authenticity." -Abraham Lincoln
