You are correct. That's a massively losing strategy, and it's time for that to change. The Republicans are playing with a horribly outdated playbook and the Democrats run circles around them.

Left Wing media outlets should be getting spammed with defamation lawsuits and their e-mail accounts should be in the hands of partisan lawyers, the latter being precisely what happened to Fox News.

A lot of the litigation process is aimed not just at getting money, but at embarrassing a company via the discovery process. Somebody writes the wrong e-mail and the company is fucked.

The Twitter files exposed how truly in the tank that company was for the Democrats and how much the partisan FBI was abusing their power to interfere in the election. Just imagine what is in the e-mail accounts at Facebook, CNN, and MSNBC.

In Alabama it will be the gun's fault amid calls for people to have the courage to pass laws that prevent teenagers from buying semi-automatic handguns. I suspect they'll start with calls to ban assault rifles first, though, per tradition. In KC it was a racist gun. Those are the worst kinds of guns.
