I think it's more likely that Fox News settled because they didn't want the fate of the lawsuit in the hands of a Left Wing jury in a far Left district. Fox News had absolutely zero chance that 12 Democrats (who all hate Fox News with a passion) would vote in their favor. Fox essentially saved themselves hundreds of millions of dollars by settling.

The enitre lawsuit was about activism. Nobody ever sued the Liberal outlets who ran negative stories on voting machines before Trump came along. Nobody with a straight face can say that Dominion was damaged by an amount that is more thirty times their annual revenue. It's purely punitive against Fox News. Ditto for the lawsuit against Alex Jones. I don't think that anyone is even trying to deny this.

In most civil lawsuits the punitive damages are almost always higher than the compensatory ones. Sometimes by a substantial amount. Not uncommon for compensatory can be as little as $1 sometimes.

Instead they defamed Dominion for the sake of eyeballs.
