  • How is the DA not brought up on prosecutorial misconduct?.
Probably because those with the authority to bring him up on charges actually agree with him.

Which is why Trump has a real possibility of being convicted of at least some of the charges against him.

This is what NYC citizens want. They voted for him, or they voted for the people who appointed him.

Its up to them to fix the problem, if they see it as a problem. Most of them probably don't.

      • I mean, how can voters in SF/Chicago/NYC not see the cost of their ill informed votes? Lori Lightfoot - certainly having all the prog credentials - was an utter failure in reducing crime in the city. So, who replaces her? Brandon Johnson, a raving liberal endorsed by Bernie Sanders. How does one explain replacing a overtly prog mayor who was an utter failure on reducing crime with a prog who is likely to end up with the same results as Lightfoot? Zip.

There's an explanation offered by the Economist. Johnson avoided embracing the popular prog abortion rights plank - a political strategy that will work getting a candidate elected in some places, fail in others. The key voter issue in Chicago was crime. But Johnson was not endorsed by the police union but rather the teacher's. What he campaigned on was not pouring more money into policing - which plank his opponent did campaign on - but rather increased money in the budget for social programs ostensibly to alleviate the conditions that allegedly create the circumstances for increased criminal activity.

I dunno. I'm generally for better law enforcement and more police presence and providing budgets to facilitate that. OTH there is plenty of evidence that suggests more militarized policing does not reduce crime and divides communities. In previous posts - seemingly not well received among posters here, I advocated for increasing public health services - particularly mental health services - as a means of reducing gun crimes committed by the cohort of mentally ill persons. The gun crimes at issue in that exchange were those committed in schools, in this case committed by a person known to be under psychiatric care. At issue in Chicago are all crimes but these two issues are related (IMO).

It seems the electorate, at least in the Chicago area, is generally more favorably disposed to improved social services to alleviate conditions that contribute to criminal activity - including gun crimes - and less disposed to increased law enforcement and police presence, especially that involving the militarization of the police. There has to be some balance and I believe the electorate is capable of getting American cities to that place. But, that's not assured. I think that is due to extreme levels of political polarization and how the media focuses in its reporting on that to the detriment of a better informed electorate.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

        • He was a Teachers' Union candidate. They managed to get elected the person they'll negotiate with on teacher benefits.

It's not even actual social programs ostensibly designed to improve lives. It's rigging the negotiation over public money.

Oh, and yes, he wants to freeze police (his comprosmise from defund) and add social workers to high crime neighborhoods. Hopefully the social workers will be unionized, too.

              • No matter what in those Chicago mayoral elections you inevitably get the teachers union candidate versus the police union candidate.

But I don't why Buchanan conflates NYC with Chicago. NYC has a gigantic police force and they tend to elect the more conservative choice of the choices they get.
