It was a few hundred hooligans that stormed through security at the Capitol and made a big ruckus because their Cheeto god told them mammoth lies. Within a few hours the place was cleared and business resumed.

Most, if not all, of the rioters are being punished to the fullest extent of the law while folks in liberal enclaves like Portland and Seattle who attacked police stations and federal courthouses in 2020 were largely given a pass. Sure the Capitol is far more symbolic but I don't know if symbolic locations legally warrant stricter application of the law. Seems to me that a riot at a federal building in Portland should be handled similarly to a riot at a federal building in Washington D.C.

Personally, I'm rabidly anti-rioting and would prefer they're all dealt with evenly and harshly. Likewise, I'd love to see some accountability in the media but, again, what goes for Fox News should go for MSNBC and CNN as well. The current broadcast media business model needs a massive disruption in the worst way.
That there were FBI agent provocateurs in the Jan 6 crowd is pretty much clearcut and settled. I don't think that's a valid excuse of any of the defendants though. If somebody can convince you to do something that you know is illegal, I don't really care who did it.

For which side? It's beyond obvious at this point that Ray Epps is getting special protection for some reason. And the most feasible reason is that he's a glowie. If there is anotther explanation for why a guy who is on video leading the riots has completely escaped prosecution, I'm all ears. j

Sounds like this is a slam dunk case for Tucker then. He should be pounding his chest at this opportunity to once and for all prove in court Ray Epps was a Fed and "led" the riot by telling people to go inside.

I've always found it amusing that these people insist they're no sheep but some rando stranger tells them to break windows and climb in the Capital and they instantly obey him.

            • Bouncing off Hannibal's cartoon, no Trump indictment until next week at earliest now. If it ever happens at all. Pretty friggin obvious Trump was bullshitting about Tuesday. But while eyes were on him he did manage to post instructions on how you can donate to his legal defense fund, his election fraud detection fund, his January 6th political prisoner relief fund, and his general funds fund. Then he hopped on Trump Force One and flew to Oklahoma to watch wrasslin.

                • What I never understood is if the grand jury was still getting testimony, it didn't make much sense that Trump would be getting arrested on Tuesday like he promised. He sure got a lot of people to jump through hoops for him, the GOP still revolves around him.

Yep. Trump is regaining his political instincts from 2016.

                      • Re the Michaelangelo thing -- first, as DSL noted, it's a weird set of facts. Second, the broader point of parental control, I have a couple additional thoughts:

                        (1) Teacher unions ill serve teachers (except for mediocre and bad teachers) and, for that matter, the general public. They advocate for the benefit of the teachers at the cost of the public. This was generally hidden until Covid when it was laid entirely bare. And a significant portion of the public correctly saw that teachers -- like anyone else -- are self-interested and that means the interest of the kids is not really in the equation. (Honestly, I'd do away with all public sector unions tomorrow if I could).

                        (2) There are also multiple examples of schools and teachers advancing cultural agendas. This has been happening for awhile, but it's largely been stealth and subtle enough to merit a "meh" from most parents. But we're no longer talking about something even as previously controversial as gay marriage, we're talking about a bunch of crazy ass trans issues and grossly inappropriate sexual shit. And that'll get the attention of some parents. (Honestly, the QT+ part of LGB....whatever...does more harm than good for a host of causes...but they're "allies" and intersectionality demands mass fealty and we end up with batshit crazy arguments).

                        (3) If you put (1) and (2) together -- both relatively recent developments -- there's a credible basis to no long just trust teachers, but to be skeptical. I'm always happy with skepticism. And the teachers work for the public, so they ought to be accountable thereto. It's now become more direct as parents, armed with a few years of skepticism, trust no one.

                        (4) The culture of victimhood so thoroughly lionized by the Left isn't limited to the Left. If victimhood and being offended plays, then it plays.

                        (5) It's fairly obvious, IMO, that most reactionary movements invariably overreact. There is then some sort of correct and things hopefully settle with some sort of range of the reasonable. This particular example is obviously a case of overreaction. There will surely be more. The pendulum is swinging back toward parents and it will almost certainly go too far. But, it's worth remembering that this shit didn't just fall from the fucking sky. This shit didn't just start up out of thin air.

I don't disagree. That means that they probably were going to do it anyways, and it's why I don't think that it's a valid excuse or a valid defense.

                              • BTW --- really valuable function for the FBI -- fomenting a riot. Granted, it's not as valuable as sending a dozen agents to investigate a garage door pull, framing Donald Trump, or conspiring with social media to silence opposition to the regime, but it's pretty close.
