It’s very good. Moody. Ascenseur pour l'echafaud is my fav album with Kind of Blue and Birth of the Cool at 2 and 3. I love everything he did prior to 1961. 1961 and after is a mixed bag. I’m not a fan of Bitches Brew, for example, no matter how popular it was.

Before you read this Ukraine update, be aware that I'm biased to any news that depicts the Russians having their asses kicked by Ukrainian forces .....
I posted a couple of days ago that a new Russian ground offensive appeared to be underway. It is believed to be westward oriented with two divisions (normally that would be a shit ton of troops and equipment) focused on breaking Ukrainian defenses on the western side of this front I described from Savatove in the north and Kreminia in the south. Centered on the offensive thrust is a small town of Vulehdar.
Reports from milbloggers I trust indicate the offensive thrust is a cluster fuck. Video evidence of this is posted on one of the Twitter feeds I follow. You may recall an incident in early summer where a Russian regiment sized unit tried to forge the Dnipro river and got absolutely destroyed trying to do it. Hundreds killed or wounded and dozens of armored vehicles destroyed or rendered unserviceable.
Well, it's happening again in Vulehdar on a two division scale of Russian forces (The Russian army does not have fully manned and equipped divisions due to battle attrition). The Russians mounted an armor heavy thrust across open terrain ideal for tanks to the west with supporting artillery and air assets - a true coordinated combined arms attempt - that was a disaster. As soon as the tanks encountered resistance from Ukrainian defenses, they turned tail leaving the troops they were supporting without armor support - the soldiers got hammered. Videos of MI24 Hind (ground attack helos) - getting shot down by the Ukrainians (or possibly from friendly fire) - are going viral.
Estimates from overhead imagery in the public domain indicate 400 Russian troops killed and more than that taken out of action by wounds; 30 tanks destroyed and dozens of BMPs laid to waste. The analyst consensus is that given the current state of the Russian army, they are incapable of mounting effective combined arms operations and this is nothing new. They were bad at it to start with when they had a full compliment of soldiers and equipment to man a true Russian division. Given attrition of experienced officers and hundreds of thousands of soldiers killed or wounded, it has become impossible.
None of this bodes well for the achievement of Putin's most recent orders to his generals to seize and control the entirety of the Luhansk and Donetsk Oblasts by March 27th. Its not going to happen. It could if the Russian army could coordinate an armor intensive offensive but it seems to be pretty clear they can't in the face of well organized and equipped Ukrainian defenses.
The provision of jet "fighters" to Ukraine from the west is dominating the news reports. If that happens, none of them will be in the hands of the Ukrainian air force and operational in the near term (the next 3 months). So it's stupid to talk about their impact which is what analysts within the MSM are writing about. The real story is that the Russians are bad at war fighting and there is plenty of evidence that they are.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. That chronology casts considerable doubt on the College Board’s version of events.
