      • DSL, I know you’re a gas expert, what’s up with the prices? $2.40 to $3.49 over six weeks and a 30-cent swing last week.

        • Dunno why they've spiked in your neck of the woods. Ours have been around the mid $3 range for quite a while. $3.49 is right about the national average.

Did they waive the gas tax in Alabama for a while and the waiver expired?

Nothing more detailed than, "Ukrainians fought off an attack in the northern section of Bakhmut on Saturday." .... and ..... Zelenski announced in his nightly address things are getting "tough" in Bakhmut.

Something I'm trying to understand is the dialogue describing Russian offensive operations that ISW is reporting on. Putin has allegedly ordered Gerisimov to control the entirety of the Luhnask and Donetsk Oblasts by March 27th. The on-going battle for Bakhmut is now two months old. Despite claims by various principals, both military and political, of advances into and around (settlements and villages) of Bakhmut by Russian forces, the realty, at least from what I read, is that there is a lot of false claims by both sides meant to influence the narrative in the information space. Something to kee[ in mind is that Russians are, first and foremost, liars and that Ukraine used to be a part of the USSR and retains a lot of Russia's questionable characteristics.

Secondarily, Bakhmut is not a strategically significant prize to be taken (or held). It has become, however, highly symbolic. Beyond that, what it also may be in the minds of strategic planners on both sides is that it is place where the lifeline of supplies to support military operations south of Bakhmut, in particular operations to assure the control of Donetsk City and the western Donetsk Oblast, passes through. There are Russian forces in and around Donetsk City but they don't completely control it, nor the western boarder regions of the Donetsk Oblast. To meet Putin's orders, the key to controlling the Donetsk Oblast is to take and hold Donetsk city.

We'll probably get some clarity on this next week as talk of a renewed "decisive" Russian offensive to be undertaken (or possibly already underway) leads news of the Ukraine war. The only way, IMO, a Russian Federation flag is raised over Bakhmut is if the Ukrainians conduct and organized tactical with drawal. It's purpose would be to prevent further losses of Ukrainian men and equipment acknowledging that the goal of inflicting mass casualties on Russian forces, armor and artillery in their attempts to seize this relatively unimportant city has been achieved - and there is absolutely no question that the Russian army has been battered and badly damaged trying to slowly take territory by massing soldiers and sending them in human waves to their deaths. The net effect of this approach over time has been to reduce the combat capabilities of the Russian Army by attrition. Anyone keeping track of personnel and equipment losses in the public information space sustained by the Russian army will tell you Russia cannot fight in a doctrinal way because of incompetent leadership and decimation of their main ground force formation, the BTG.

                          • I'd like to try a little thought experiment here. Yes, I know given the membership of this forum, that is probably overly ambitious. If you know the details of this story please refrain from commenting about the geographic location and people involved. These events are fairly commonplace now so it could be most anywhere. Any emphasized text is mine.

Late last year a non-profit charitable organization held a "Drag Queen Christmas" event at their venue which serves liquor. No big whoop.

However, the organization's promotional materials unequivocally stated 'all ages welcome.' according to the government complaint. Without knowing for certain that allowing minors into an event that serves liquor isn't a no-no by itself, the real kicker is when the presence of liquor is combined with sexually explicit performances.

The government agency reached out to the organization prior to the event and warned them, their legal representatives, and the drag show operators that its show, “Drag Queen Christmas,” should not permit minors into the show because _______ had reason to believe that the shows were sexually explicit and that children had been admitted to previous performances of the show at other venues, including __________ two days prior.

The warnings were ignored and the show went on as planned.

The complaint, which is supported by photographic evidence, alleges that the show performed on December 28th included sexually explicit lyrics adapted for popular children’s songs while performers “engaged in acts of sexual conduct, simulated sexual activity, and lewd, vulgar and indecent displays” including masturbation, prosthetic genitalia, bare buttocks, and simulated childbirth and abortion.

Photos included with the complaint appear to show at least two minors being escorted into the show by adults.

“The venue proceeded with their plans and, according to an investigation by the Department, the venue violated __________ statutes as outlined in the attached complaint,” said _______. “Therefore, the Department is revoking the venue’s license for the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages.

So that's the issue at hand. A venue and/or it's show promoters seemingly violated, what seems to me, pretty common sense liquor laws and had their license revoked.

Is this a justified action by the presiding authority, yes or no?

Does this seem controversial or heavy-handed?

                            Curious of your thoughts.
