Ukraine: You may be seeing in the news today that the Russians have obtained their first victory by "taking control" of Soledar since June/July of 2022 when Ukrainian forces retreated from Severodonetsk and Lysychansk, two cities near each other in the Donbas - one in Donetsk and one in Luhansk Oblasts.
Soledar is about 60km north of Bakhmut, the town were the Russians have been trying and failing to symbolically capture since August. The British MOD describes Russian objectives as being the envelopment of Bakhmut to the north (from Soledar) and the south (From Optyne) and this is part of that objective. Loss of life, serious injuries and destruction of buildings and infrastructure is staggering with nothing in the history of warfare to compare it to. It's trench warfare of Verdun in WW1 with weapons that are ten X more lethal and advance technology intelligence to pin point where munitions land.
What is post worthy about this news is that the Russians definitely do not have full control of Soledar. They have advanced literally meters at a time and are engaged in difficult street to street urban combat with Ukrainian forces that still control by some estimates more than 50% of the dity including the symbolic city center. What happens is that the Russians send waves of poorly equipped, newly mobilized Russian soldiers as cannon fodder. Survivors and elite Russian troops advance during daylight over the corpses of their comrades, killed by both their own and Ukrainian shelling, try to set up defensive perimeters and occupy them.
At night, Ukrainian special forces using IR drones and night vision goggles (NVG) infiltrate these poorly constructed and poorly manned perimeter defensenses and pick the Russian soldiers off at close range. None of the Russians, who are organized in platoon sized elements (12-15 men), have NVGs. The Ukrainian SF men work to capture troops that surrender but it's chaotic. Daylight video of those taken prisoners of war show troops that have no winter clothing and some have no footwear. There's video of this stuff on Twitter feeds I follow. Pretty graphic watching, via IR drone video screens, Russians get killed by grenades thrown in to their hideouts followed by up close kill shots of whomever is left standing and resisting by the Ukrainian SF men. Its no contest - the Ukrainians can plainly see their opponents with NVGs, the Russians can't see anything except muzzle flashes.
This has been a repeating process. Russians take land during the day by the meter then can't defend it against night attacks and either die in place, surrender or retreat to their rear areas.. The "advancing" Russian soldiers have no armor or fighting vehicles to support them. They are foot soldiers without typical supporting arms. The Russian army, oddly, is clearly not trained to fight at night. Russian soldiers are callously thrown into the fray by their ruthless commanders who are Chechnyans and Wagner Group mercenaries fighting, wastefully dieing, for Putin's ill-advised cause.
By claiming "victory" over this strategically insignificant city, the Russians are doing nothing other than trying to create their own, albeit false, narratives and fill the information space with what they hope is propaganda designed to keep Russian citizens and soldiers motivated to support Putin and hurt Ukrainian civilian and soldier morale. It's getting laughed at, not surprisingly by Russian citizens and soldiers alike. The caveat is that the Ukrainian upper echelon military and political leadership know that the Kremlin and Russian commanders in the field have the population of drafted young men that they can keep pumping them in to Ukraine. They do not care how many die or how pulverized the land and structures that once stood on it are. Putin is rigorously focused on winning - fundamentally brining all of Ukraine under his repressive control. It remains a terrible battle of will with a lot of innocent people in uniform and out of it dying or getting seriously injured by this shit.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

This is another litmus test on the gullibility level of the populace. I'd love to predict that this is the point where everyone wakes up and realizes the level of retardation that we have descended into, but I've seen too much lately.

The gas stove shit is pure retardation. The asthma shit is based on a ludicrously bad study. But, you gotta claim it hurts kids!
Electric stoves ares almost 5x more likely to start a house fire so we probably need to ban those, too!
But, this is the Progs. Fortunately, I don’t think even the people here would defend this idiocy.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?

Don’t ever change CNN — gas stoves in an apartment are as bad as idling a car in the same apartment. Chief Climatologist at CNN

It’s almost unbelievable how quickly they ran with the party line AND added their own lies to it.
Don’t ever change CNN.
Personally, I’d like to challenge CNN’s Chief Climatologist. I’ll cook dinner on my gas stove and at the same time he can hang out in a garage with an idling car. We’ll see how things go.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?

Prepare to be on the wrong side of history again.Last edited by Hannibal; January 11, 2023, 09:24 PM.
