  • Good news for Gretchen's second term. Fix the damn roads!
Researchers have discovered ancient Roman concrete-manufacturing strategies that incorporated self-healing. Applying this knowledge toward modern cement production, they hope to improve the material’s environmental impact.

        Yep.

She's never going to be held accountable for her actions during Covid where hundreds of people died due to her decision to put Covid positive people in nursing homes. She's safe from prosecution, because her pal Nessie is the AG and will stop any criminal investigation cold. She has the entire legislature, house and senate in Democrat control which will stop any government investigation. And if anything should squeek by those stone walls, she has her pals on the MSC now, who will never allow her to be found guilty.

        Great gig.

And, get ready for her pet project, the 140% gasoline tax increase. After all, "gasoline prices have come down due to Joe Biden". Wait until that one hits the streets.

        Great times in Michigan.

But, it must be what the voters want. She's very popular, you know.

            • Yes, better roads.

              • Isn't it funny that Michigan is the LAST midwestern state to discover some way other than an ancient Roman "secret" to good roads? Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota and even (gasp) ohio have never had roads that suck as bad as ours do.

But Gretch is as brilliant as she is popular.

                • Ohio spends more money the roads than Michigan and has for a long time. Most Midwestern states do, you spend more money you get better roads, it's not that hard.

By the way, the roman article was a joke.

                  • Michigan already pays the 4th highest gasoline tax in the nation. With Gretch's upcoming bill, we will be the highest. Even higher than California.

But those roads will sure be purdy...

Dems have never met a tax they didn't like.

                    • Only a third of that gas tax revenue goes to the roads is the problem. When Tom W talks about the surrounding Midwest states having better roads, it's because they devote more of that revenue to the roads. You like to pin the blame solely on Democrats but it was your boy Engler that passed proposal A that increased the sales tax to 6 percent. That has a lot to do with the higher gas tax because that also applies to gas on top of the tax.

                      • Here’s a clue: throwing MORE money at a problem isn’t solving it. You kinda need to be smarter with how you aim that money. That’s been the problem with Michigan for decades. It’s not an R or D issue.

                        • 5 dollars for a dozen eggs. That's the trade you make to get better roads. Those roads are sure nice but paying more fore everything else is the result. Don't try to sugarcoat it any other way.

                          • Before the pandemic, a dozen eggs in this area sold for about $.60 cents. Yesterday my wife bought eggs at Wal-Mart (supposedly the best price in the area) for $4.58. Even at the end of the Trump administration, they were right around $2.00. I'm sorry, but this economy and its high prices is firmly the fault of the Biden administration and is on his shoulders to fix. Gretch will only be adding to the problem when she pulls out her pen and with a big smile, signs the law that raises our gasoline taxes. Big government at its worst.

                            • Yes. Michigan got the benefit of 200 millionn Covid relief. Earmarked for infrastructure and road relief. That's nice and all but there wasn't any representation or citizen query about it. Just a pen strike from above. Yeah, Trump did it too so it was a bipartisan thing but it hiked inflation across the board with the trillions that was to RELIEF the pain of Covid. Edit: actually the covid relief was about 6 billion. Witmer got 200 mil through the state on her own..

                                Not only wrong but incoherent.

Proposal A was a trade-off, passed by citizens, that raised the state sales tax to 6% in exchange for capping the amount that property taxes could be raised in a given year. It had nothing to do with the gas tax.

The unfortunate thing is that the gas tax increase will be sold as protecting the environment. (by making those who drive internal combustion autos pay an additional subsidy to the Greens.)
