  • This is an excerpt form ISW's Ukraine report yesterday evening. Russians are getting tired of Putin's war in Ukraine.. Although not explicitly argued in the report, I don' thave any doubt that Russian citizens that have money and are living in the big cities and not really being directly touched by Putin's war are missing the luxury items they are used to having easy access to. Yes, sanctions but the biggest factor in empty shelves are companies not directly under sanctions that are refusing to supply Russian stores that cater to the upper class out of protestation against the war. In turn this cohort of Russian citizens is beginning to wonder if Putin is the guy who should be in charge. Rural residents, the one's hit hardest by mobilization, are just angry that their sons and husbands are coming back by the thousands in body bags.

Russian opinion polling suggests that the Russian public may be tiring of Russia’s war in Ukraine. Russian opposition media outlet Meduza reported on November 30 that it had gained access to the results of an opinion poll commissioned by the Kremlin for internal use that shows that 55 percent of Russians favor peace talks with Ukraine and 25 percent favor continuing the war.[15] Russian independent polling organization Levada’s October polling shows a similar breakdown with 34 percent favoring continuing military actions in Ukraine and 57 percent favoring negotiations.[16] Internal Kremlin polling reportedly placed the percentage of Russians supporting negotiations with Ukraine at 32 percent in July and the percentage favoring the continuation of the war at 57 percent.[17] Meduza reported that the director of the Levada Center Denis Volkov stated that the share of Russians likely to support peace talks with Ukraine began to grow rapidly following Russian President Vladimir Putin’s partial mobilization decree.[18] Disruptions associated with partial mobilization and Russian setbacks on the battlefield have likely contributed to an increasing war weariness among the Russian public, as reflected in the polling.

    • Just finished another defense related paper that talked about lessons learned involving cyber warfare. It is now in the public domain that Russia engaged in an all encompassing cyber attack against multiple targets in Ukraine starting 24h before their tanks rolled in. Fixed air defense systems were rendered ineffective and the Vsat communications system was taken down. There were ongoing occasional Russian cyber-attacks targeting Ukraine's electrical grid from 2016. These increased dramatically in the early days of Russia's invasion but were not nearly as effective as the recent wave of cruise missiles.

Analysts believe Russian cyber warfare was not as effective as they had intended it to be even though it was well coordinated with Russian ground forces. The Ukrainians, prepared for these attacks on air defense systems and communications years in advance and had already deployed mobile back-ups that were unaffected by the nature of the attacks on fixed sites. Same with communication. Taking down satellite coms was anticipated and prepared for. The assessment is that Russia's cyber attacks had no noticeable impact in favor of their attack plan and allegedly had no impact on Ukraine's successful defense of Kiev forcing a Russian withdrawal.

Important lessons learned include that Russia's deployment of cyber warfare was not technologically sophisticated but it is also believed they did not show their complete hand. It's notable that most experts in this area state that the Russian underworld is good at building software and injecting various trojan horses into software dependent systems and pulling out the data they want or setting up blackmail operations. The stuff we know about (and it is unlikely we know it all) was pretty rudimentary compared to the capabilities to write malware (not openly discussed) in the west.

Over the last decade, countries have invested heavily in cyberwarfare capabilities both offensive and defensive. The initial take, that will almost certainly reveal more in classified studies and results of them, is that cyberwarfare is not the sll ending big boogey man it was thought to be. Ukraine demonstrated impact was short lived, system failures quickly restored and every cyberattack diminishes the effectiveness of subsequent attacks. That is because cyber operations require a ton of advanced planning that is time intensive ...... it's easier, less expensive and it turns out more efficient to take out a system you want to disable by dropping a bomb on it rather than building code and injecting malware into it.

Cochise County just got ordered by a judge to approve their results TODAY. No more stalling. This is the only county that refused to certify on Monday.

Kari Lake campaign ordered to pay Maricopa County's legal fees for her frivolous lawsuit. Her attorneys also got hit with Rule 11 sanctions, basically stays on their record forever.

        • Man, the USA is on a roll this week. Another big win for AMERICA!!!!

President Shitstain loses bigly. This pretty much ends the "special master" sideshow. The decision goes tough on Trump's arguments but is even tougher on Judge Cannon, saying she had no justification for appointing a special master in the first place. Orders her to reverse her decision and dismiss Trump's lawsuit.

While you eat Dinty Moore stew straight from the can to save on your electric bill, Prog Amerika is gathered at the White House tonight to enjoy Maine lobster and Beef Wellington, in celebration of our oldest alliance: with France.

                  • So FTX just scammed billions in a gigantic ponzi scheme and funneled huge sums of money to Washington politicians (most of them Dems) and apparently nobody cares.

                    • SWF donated a bunch to Dems but FTX itself and other high people at the firm donated to Republicans. Like most major corporations they play both sides.

FWIW, the Dems love to regulate everything and only a few oppose regulating crypto. It's Republicans, especially your precious Alt Right, who are furiously opposed to any regulation whatsoever of the crypto industry. After all, it's going to bring down the Fed and replace the US dollar any day now
