There's an expose piece in the NYT's evening releases that hammers the Biden administration's foray to Saudi Arabia.
Apparently, Biden administration officials thought they had brokered a secret deal where the Saudi's had agreed to accelerate an increase oil production of 400,000 bl/day, previously planned for September. Following that initial increase, the Saudis' would get the cartel to agree to an additional increase of 200K bl/day through the end of the year. The initial part of the deal required the Saudi's to increase production by 10k bl/day which they said they would do. This greenlighted Biden's trip to the dessert in July which was actually opposed by several D's who didn't trust the Saudis (no shit, they never did follow through with the 10k bl/d promised).
There should be no question that this move by the Biden administration was politically motivated and intended to convince voters that gas prices are coming down. Recall that a Biden statement made during the late summer indicated gas prices would fall below$3.00/gl soon. At the time of this announcement Bid was under the impression he had a deal with the Saudi's. The reality is that Biden was trying to keep the electorate from voting for the "red wave" in November.
The Saudi's then proceeded to decrease the promised 200K bl/day to !00k and on September 5th announced a 400k bl/d decrease in cartel output. Biden got ass-fucked. This is just another example of the incredible naivete in the conduct of foreign affairs by the clown show currently in charge. The article is paywalled but the link is below:
