A less political issue than illegal immigration, but still the identical core concept...everyone wants to treat the homeless with kindness and decency and assume that their condition is not really of their own doing. Which is all well and good until they start shitting on your sidewalk or until the decision-makers decide to relocate them to your town. Strangelove, e.g., frequently talks about how the City of Columbus should do way better for the homeless and let them be, but he'd howl like a banshee if the City relocated them to the parking lot of his haughty Shoney's-adjacent apartment complex.
Cut off the homeless' welfare unless they live in specified areas. This is not an unsolvable problem.
I remember when Congress passed a bill circa 1995 in which there was a work requirement for welfare recipients. Predictions were for mass starvation and violence in the streets. Nothing at all happened except the federal budget was balanced in two years.

The extreme Right is a response to the rise of the extreme Left. This was true throughout the 20th Century. That is why you will not solve the problem by attacking the extreme Right.
I agree with this......although it's hard to argue likewise the problem won't be solved by attacking the extreme left. My problem with NOT doing that is the utter stupidity of what an emerging authoritarian socialism, part and parcel of the D ideologies, means going forward for the majority of Americans. I don't have to go down the list of these. They have been articulated here in this forum.
Politicos will offer voices of compromise need to surface and such discourse elevated and praised. That would be nice but some of America's most important institutions, among them the press and academia, have been infiltrated by liberals that trash that kind of thinking insisting on my way or the highway and have gained unprecendented leverage to enforce that motto.

Ukraine: Multiple sources are reporting events originating around the 6th of September and continuing through today involve a "lighting counter offensive" by Ukrainian forces in the Karkiv province. Targets include Russian supplies, supply routes leading from 60 miles inside established fronts west and south of Khrakiv to include a major Russian logistics hub in Izyum. Zelenski has stated in video interviews that Ukrainin forces have retaken thousands of square kms of previously held Ukrainin territory by Russian forces. The tactics being employed by the Ukrainian forces are surmized to be attacks on key areas that afford the attackers to either encircle or pin Russian forces against natural river boundries
Analysts believe the Ukrainian counter-offensive in and around Kherson in the SE was a feint that successfully caused Russian forces to redeploy from the defense of occupied territory east of Karkiv to Kherson in the south weakening defenses around Kharkiv that the Ukrainians have skillfully exploited. Explicit details of the Ukrainian operations in the public domain are rare and the press is getting an earful from operational briefings by the Ukrainian General Staff. These are backed up by reporters trying to vet the accuracy of these briefings who have followed condemnatory posts from frustrated Russian milbloggers and satellite immagery in the public domain, cleverly brought to their attention by the Ukranian side. Most alarmed posts from Russian milbloggers include anger over the poor C&C resulting in a disorganized and ill-fated defense of occupied territory and an inability of Russian forces to employ combined arms effectively - something that has characterized most of Russia's operations in Ukraine from the start.
I think it is safe to say that the Russian armed forces are taking another embarrassing tactical hit not to mention these are coming from, according to Ukrainian briefings, the deployment and effective use of US HIMARs in Russian rear areas, creating confusion and chaos and German air defense and EW equipment employed on the battle lines. These are preventing Russian tactical aircraft from entering the immediate battle space and if they try they are getting shot down (2 fixed wing and two helos downed with video and social media confirmation). There are reports with confirmed videos of Russian troops abandoning their positions, shedding thier uniforms and replacing them with civilian clothes and riding out of harms way on bicycles. There are also reports that what appears to be a wholesale withdrawal of Russian forces enmass from defensive positions around Kharkiv before Spetember 6th as if they knew attacks were coming and to avoid encriclement.

More good news from Ukraine: Russian forces have been routed from both Kharkiv (yesterday) Izyum to the south last night and this am. Apparently Russian forces have withdrawn from both cities acording to the Russian MOD. Izyum sit directly on top of a critical ground line of communication (GLOC) that allows Russian forces to resupply it's operations in the DNR. Obviously, this is a key to further isolating the occupiers and setting conditions for negotiating leverage. The map below is from a Twitter account and suggests a broad Ukrainian strategy to much further than simply sitting down and negotiating. There are independent reports of the immense size of Ukrainian forces committed to this surprise operation with it's axis of attack depicted below:

...... If this is other than just biased speculation, it is a very bold undertaking that puts Ukrainian forces inside Russia's borders. I have a hard time taking that seriously as the risk of defeat attempting something like this and the logistics of supporting it are huge.

In the late night reporting in the west - that would conclude reporting from Ukraine very early Sunday morning - besides the stunning advances of Ukrainian forces in the Kharkiv province, analysts are reporting that the Russian MoD is feeling the collapse of control of the information space. Previously, a winning effort, RUssian controlled state media has become full of contradictory and chaotic reporting on what's going on in Ukraine with the losses of territory previously occupied by Russain troops to thier Ukrainian counterparts.
What has more bearing on the public's mood inside Russia are the milbloggers posting on the freely accessible Telegram platform. Previously hawkishly supporting posts that parroted the Kremlin's doctored line have disappeared and replaced by highly critical posts of military leadership that has produced a disorganized poorly supported withdrawl of Russian forces from the Kharkiv province including the city of Izyum that sits astride major road and rail supply lines. Thye have also criticized Putin who was holding a "big billion rubel party" in Moscow while he does not appear to know his Russian army is in diorganized retreat in the face of Ukrainian offensive that has moved to within 25-50 kms of the Russian-Ukrainian boarder and is looking like it is going encircle and trap thousands of Russian troops backed up against natural geographic barriers.
This tactical win is going to have major strategic consequences if Ukraine is able to hold on to this territory as Russia cannot resupply it forces in the Donbas that had success in seizing Sloviansk and Luhansk. The defense of these cities and surrounding territories, given the redeployment of Russain troops to the Kherson province in the SE, is going to be imperiled. If Ukraine retakes and then succeeds in holding these cities, it will present Putin with some very hard choices.
Ross Douthat wrote yesterday evening that what's happened in the last few days has reshaped the face of the war in Ukraine. The question is: can Ukraine continue its battlefield successes and thereby feed confidence in western Europe that it can tough it out in the face of weaponization of energy supplies by Putin through a difficult winter. As well, a potential outcome of Ukraine's success is to push Putin to use tactical nukes to regain the offensive. The point being you can push but not too hard with the articulated Zelesnki goal of pushing all Russian forces and as well as their proxy military in the DNR, LNR and possibly the liberation of Crimea pretty dangerous stuff.
