The situation does not look good for the government. The Ivy League-educated attorneys of the DOJ had to know this adventure had little chance of an eventual successful prosecution. The use, therefore, of a highly intrusive search of a home simply as a forcing function to retrieve documents for the National Archives — and then not follow through with actual charges — spikes the potential abuse needle dramatically and will not help quiet the growing suspicion that this was more of a political hitjob to take Trump off the chessboard than it was the pursuit of blind justice.

After weeks of speculation, the Ukrainina Armed forces have launched a three axis attack to retake Kherson. Coordinated preparations began several days, maybe weeks ago. We've just seen single stories with Ukrainin official sources being circumspect about what is going on. The Ukrainian general staff has reported that Ukraining ground forces, supported by aviation and artillery units have penetrated the first line of Russian defenses around Kherson. This, they say, is a phased operation and there is no hurry. The hard part is yet to come. The plan is apparently to surround the city and avoid urban conflict resulting in a withdrawl of Rssian occupiers inside the city proper. It is also reported that a second line of defense supposedly manned by elite Russian paratroopers on relazing there were no orders or direction coming from comman posts to engage and reinforce, fled.

None of this has been verified. The only reporting is coming from the Ukrainian side. There may be more around noon our time tomorrow from independent sources. Anything you here from the Russians will be bull-shit.

More confirmation this morning that something is definately going on in the Kherson Province. The most detailed descriptions of it are coming from Russian milbloggrs that ISW follows. While the bloggers are on a a social media platform called Telegram, it is nevertheless a source of information describing events in the battle space. They report disorganized movement of civilians and Russian soldiers.

There is also infrared satelitte imagry in the public domain that traks heat signatures. There is in increase in these in and around the city of Kherson. Possibly most telling is that Russian controlled public service announcements are teling residents of Kherson to take shelter, don't flee - apparently a lof are doing just that. The other reports of Russian soldiers abandoning their postions and running away is possible given reports of chaos amid HIMARs rocket attacks on Russian defensive positions is less reliable but possible.

Some of the reports I've seen suggest they are trying to isolate Kherson city from the territory to the northeast of it along the west bank of the Dnipro currently occupied by Russia. Also if reports are to be believed, the only way across the Dnipro at the moment are very slow pontoon bridges/rafts.
