Ukraine: The Russians attacked a train station in the Dnipro area of Ukraine late afternoon, Ukraine time. It killed 15 people. There were other attacks today but not some great shower of rockets that some expected, especially Zelenski who warned citizens to not gather in large groups to celebrate Ukraine's Independence Day. Details are sketchy but, my take is that the lack of sustained and credible numbers of long range ship and air launched rockets being launched into Ukraine reflects a general shortage of these precision weapons and the platforms that typically launch them.
In military/political news, ISW believes that Putin is directing two field commanders, one on the eastern and one of the southern axis, bypassing typical MOD and in0country command structures. This isn't new but rumors of this come and go as analysist watch the comings and goings of military higher-ups in Russia From a historical perspective no major war in the modern age has been successfully prosecuted when the head guy tries to take charge. Hitler is the most recent example of the stunning later failures of the German army in WWII ordered to fight on multiple fronts spreading resources thin. Analysts do know that Russia is trending heavily to resources shortages in manpower, weapons and logistic means to deliver the supplies need for combat operations to the front lines. None of this, OTH, points to an end to hostilities. There is nothing forcing Putin to change his immediate plans right now.
This is a kind-of weak interview conducted by NPR of Russian expert on Kremlin politics. It asserts that he biggest fallout from the Dugina assassination is that Moscow's elites may no longer feel isolated and safe from the war in Ukraine. If terrorist can operate freely inside Russia and under the noses of the FSB, that's not a good sign of this crowd. Whther thaat has any impact on Putin remains to be seen but there are a lot of reports over the last couple of weeks showing increasing impatience among previously supportive enclaves in and around Moscow with Putin's speicl military operation that is now into it's 7th month. From the start, this group has been fed a daily diet of propaganda that the operation would be quick and painless. It's getting harder and harder for people inside Russia to believe that even though the news is highly censored and propagandized. One thing is making the rounds. A lot of Russian soldiers have been lost in Ukraine and this certainly isn't the quick operation that Putin said it would be 6 months ago.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.
