    • 14 days after the Mar a Lago raid and Trump still hasn't released ANY security cam footage (that his apologists say will totally vindicate him) and his legal team has not filed a single motion in court.

            • Not unexpectedly the Russian FSB issued a statement today that identified the perpetrator of the bombing that killed Dugin's daughter. They also stated she was the intended target. The statement contained pictures of a woman identified as a Ukrainian arriving in Moscow on July 23rd and renting an apartment in the same complex as Daria Dugin "to obtain information about her and her routine behaviors." After the bombing the FSB said she fled Russia to Estonia in a gray Mini-Cooper. There is video of the vehicle crossing the Russian-Estonian boarder. The claim that she fled to Estonia amplifies the tensions between Russia and Estonia, one of the harshest critics of Putin's war in Ukraine. Estonia is a member of the NATO alliance. Go for it Vlad.

Connecting the dots, Ukraine is celebrating it's independence from Soviet Russia in 1991 on August 24th. Usually, its a big deal. This year it's going to be muted because the Zelenski government is worried about Russian rocket strikes on festive gatherings and rally's and has canceled government sponsored celebrations and urged local governments to nott allow them. Putin has used false flag provocations that presage some kind of military action. It is known that the FSB bombed an apartment building killing 300 residents there in 2008, claiming the bombings were Chechnyan terrorists. That ushered in Putin's full scale invasion of Chechnya.

According to recent analysis, the Russian army does not have sufficient combat power in and around Ukraine to initiate more substantive offensive operations. So, this isn't likely to spur some kind of declaration of war and more robust combat operations. Over the last 2-4 weeks, the Russian forces have conducted limited reconnaissance in force operations and have reinforced defensive positions in and around Kherson, moving troops from the eastern Donbas to southern Ukraine in response. They lack the resources to fight a two front war let alone launch a full scale invasion of Ukraine. OTH, nothing would surprise me coming from Putin. Exacerbating the threat of a nuclear "accident" at the Zaphoriza NPP could be in play. I have no doubt Putin will pull something supposedly in response to the killing of Daria Dugin, a killing he probably engineered to begin with.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

                • Not at all. All redactions will be under review, open to appeal by either side. The concern by Trumpsters is that the redactions might be so heavy that what is released might not reveal the "bombshells" the Trumpsters so desperately fantasize about.

So what do we know? The National Archives found 15 boxes of material missing, known to be kept at MAL. These were returned. The National Archives found not all documentation supposedly within the 15 boxes was returned. A subpoena was issued last June for the additional material. Trump lawyers stated all material had been returned and signed a document stating such. An insider at MAL reported that additional material was still there. Lawyers at MAL were asked if the signed statement that everything had been returned still valid, which was answered in the affirmative. It is at this point that statements and other proof were taken to create the search warrant, resulting in the 11 boxes (that didn't exist according to Trump lawyers) being seized.

The judge is siding with neither side. An indictment would go far in clearly all this up - the affidavit used to substantiate the search warrant could be largely opened in the discovery process if Trump or others were charged.

                    • From the WSJ:

WASHINGTON—Former President Donald Trump filed a lawsuit Monday seeking the appointment of a special master to review the materials seized by the FBI earlier this month.

Mr. Trump is also seeking a more detailed inventory of the items taken from his home in Mar-a-Lago, as well as the return of any items seized that weren’t within the scope of the search warrant.

“To date, the government has failed to legitimize its historic decision to raid the home of a President who had been fully cooperative,” Mr. Trump’s lawyers said in the civil complaint, titled Trump v. United States Government.

                      • If anything gets released, it's going to have redactions. You can be pretty sure of that. For one, any witness names will be. What the judge was hinting at is that there could be so many redactions that the document is pointless to make public at this time.

An ordinary person wouldn't be able to get the underlying Affidavits unsealed until after an indictment took place. Trump may get deference since he's a former President.

                            Here's the actual filing

The consensus I've heard so far is that if Trump had asked for a special master in the first 24-48 hours after the search warrant was executed, he probably would've gotten one. But he waited two weeks and now it's a little unclear what will happen. He may still get one appointed but the government has had two weeks to look through everything so it could be moot.

As far as the filing itself is concerned most seem to be branding it "amateur hour". Long on bombastic rhetoric and short on legal substance (the only exhibit attached is another copy of the warrant). But if I see something from a credible conservative lawyer like Andy McCarthy saying otherwise I'll try and post it.
