Desantis was about individual freedom not "local freedom"
What the rule is obviously NOT is authoritarian. I would have thought it impossible to claim that a rule prohibiting government from removing individual freedoms is authoritarian. But, here we are.
And, as to substance of the rule -- you are, of course, correct.
But, The Media has it's narrative on "Death"Santis -- and it's that he's an "authoritarian." So they need to cram whatever paltry facts they have into that narrative. And their readers swallow it whole without an ounce of skepticism and then parrot it back.
I mean, DON'T SAY GAY!Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?

In the ongoing effort of the Rs to snatch defeat from what should be an obvious victory, JD Vance is only +3 on Ryan in Ohio. In the same poll, DeWine was +16 and Trump v Bidenw as +14. In Wisconsin, a Marquette poll has Ron Johnson down by 7. Now, I don't there's any way Johnson loses by 7, but it's not a good sign.

Oh, for sure. In close races -- where a 2-5 point swing makes all the difference -- it's a big deal. Again, I'm puzzled by any pushback as to what is obviously happening. The DCCC wants Trumpists to run against in November. They think they're more easily beatable in the general. So, they spend money on their behalf. It wouldn't matter a lick in most primaries -- e.g., they could have poured billions in to save Cheney and still lost by 30. But, in close elections -- and there have been a few -- the money is at least arguably critical.

Johnson has been counted out before (as has Murkowski) so you got to see it to believe it.

Speaking of Murkowski, btw, lots of commentary since Tuesday night that she received very encouraging results. Her vote total + the Dems are already over 50% and most of the outstanding vote is in Native areas, who she has always done very well with.
This is all just to get to the General Election but it seems like a positive sign for her chances to hang on once again.

There's been a wave of good polls for Dem Senate candidates. On the one hand it's good to be skeptical. On the other, almost all these polls still show Biden having terrible approval numbers. So at some point you start to wonder if Biden's total unpopularity isn't going to drag down everyone as much as conventionally thought.

It sort of reminds of the polling that got Ds all excited in the summer about beating McConnell or winning the SC Senate race. Hell, even the NC Senate race. Singleton polls are just so scattershot.Last edited by iam416; August 18, 2022, 07:56 AM.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?

I think it's possible when a race isn't getting much media attention it causes some people to flirt with the idea of voting for someone of the opposite party. Like I'm sure there are plenty of Republicans in Florida who are kind of sick of Rubio and maybe Demings doesn't seem that bad but then a close poll gets released, which draws the attention of the national media and WHAM! It becomes nationalized, Sean Hannity is suddenly reminding everyone that a vote for Demings is a vote for AOC, and the flirtation is over.
