  • Liney, I've been a mod for these various boards since 1996. I've booted exactly one person (1999?) for threatening to hunt someone down and do harm to them. No one has fallen to that level since then so no action has been taken. If you feel you're being trolled, ignore it. Talent is by far the worst troll here and I don't hear any complaints. This is an internet bluster board, either ignore the comment or respond to it. Just don't take it personal.

The only thing I would request is something of Wiz. When you post your incredibly asinine memes, press the "small" button and then grab the lower right corner and shrink it down. That way it doesn't take up 4 or 5 screens.

    • Jon - thanks for your comments. You've known me since the old Freep days. You and I disagree on politics, but I think we both can agree that we are friends. Chances are, when you and I meet again, politics won't even come up. I have people in my immediate family who disagree with my politics, and we're fine. So I know how to coexist with those who disagree with me.

I won't rehash everything I said last night, but I stand by every word. As of this morning, I've got the result that I wanted. He ignored my comment. Good.

From now on, he gets the same treatment he gives to me. I've activated the ignore feature again, and I won't see anything he posts unless he quotes me. If he ignores me, I'll ignore him. If he calls me out with lies and misrepresentations, I'll respond in the same manner. This situation is 100% in his court now. Where we go from here is totally up to him.

Gee, would it be too much of an assumption to think that maybe the D's are also pretty well invested with the fossil fuel industry? It does kind of go along with the hypocrisy that they think we're all too stupid to notice.

Unless there's a worldwide oil boycott, this is not going to change.
          Jon:

At some point, you should pull your head out of the far-left propaganda to actually look at things with your own eyes. Gasoline reached $ 5.00/gal on or about June 6. Now, two months later, the price is $ 4.00/gal. That is a 20% drop in the last two months. The reason for the decline is primarily the market. Conservatives can rail about taking oil from the SPR, but that is a drop in the bucket. What happened was that at $ 5.00, folks decided to make a concerted effort not to drive as much. Quantity DEMANDED was lowered. By the market.

It is SUPPLY that has been crushed by the Biden administration's war on fossil fuels, and their unwillingness to permit new pipelines or refineries. Dems have control over almost 100% of the "green energy" agenda, particularly those production facilities in China that supply virtually all solar products and windmills. You rail about the oil companies. Their profit comes from the low-cost oil and gas they are now selling. If you have a cost of $ 20.00/bl of oil, and you refine it for use, you are actually making a $ 70.00/bl "profit" relating to the price of the raw product (at $ 90.00/bl). That makes the reported profit artificially high because the input cost is artificially low. "Green" profits are also high, but they are high partly because the government taxes working folks in order to take their money and transfer it to Dem donors, who own the companies feeding at the trough.

Now, I'd appreciate your focusing on the following statement:

Solar power and wind power would not exist in a free market.

They are way too expensive in comparison to the amount of energy they produce, plus they are intermittent. That is why Rs have not invested in them heavily.

The whole climate change farce is about transferring money from working people to entities that line the pocket of D donors, who then "donate" to The Party.

In actuality, the D investors in the fossil fuel industry are using their voting power to have the O+G industry invest in green energy. This is where ESG comes in. There is now an all-government approach to trying to destroy the O+G business. Mutual fund managers (think Blackrock) and financial institutions are "encouraged" to invest in those businesses that have high ESG scores. That deprives for-profit businesses of capital. This is all about the green agenda..

Never forget, China and Russia are the primary funders of the Green parties in Europe and of the environmentalists in the US.

            • The Inflation Reduction Act has a lot of incentives to try and get the USA closer to energy independence, we'll see if it works. The sooner we don't have to deal with these petro states, the better. It even has language to complete the Mountain Valley Pipeline.

The thing about gas prices is interesting, everyone rightly cheered the Europeans when they quit accepting Russian oil and it is a valid reason. But you are fooling yourself if you don't see the effect on the gas prices.

Today, the least expensive gasoline in the area is $3.69. So its still $2.00 higher than on inauguration day. A long way to go.

The Chairman is directly responsible for the increase in gas prices, because he has threatened to 'shut down' the fossil fuel industry, and everything he's done since then seems to have that goal in mind. So, in response, the industry is in the midst of taking profits, because they know if this current administration gets re-elected, their profits will continue to fall. So, they're taking profits while they are available.

I'm all for so-called green energy, if its as reliable as fossil fuels and as cost efficient. When Mom the diner waitress and Dad the factory worker can buy a 'green' automobile, that gets more than 200 miles per charge, and doesn't cost the price of their house, then I'd say we're ready as a country to transition over. But technology is nowhere near that, no matter what Debbie Stupidnow or Queen Grech says. And electricity can't really be 'green' when most of the electrical plants used to make electricity are either coal fired or natural gas fired. Even my Flint Community Schools educated mind can figure that out.

And "froot', your stupidity continues to flow freely here. You are the most ignorant poster this forum has seen in its entire existence. The things you claim to know are wildly ignorant and just plain stupid. You don't know me, you've never known me, and if you passed me on the street, you wouldn't know me. Yet you continue to make absolutely stupid remarks about what I believe and you think you have some sort of special insight on what I think. You are just plainly a stupid fool. A willingly stupid fool. You have nothing interesting or challenging to say about anything to anybody. If I had my way, you'd be long gone from here. But others seem to like your foolishness, so onward you go. If you were as smart as you claim to be, you'd totally ignore me and leave me to wallow in my ignorance and low-brow educational level. But, you won't because you constantly BEG for my attention. You got it, bub. You're a fool. You're a willing fool. And that's the worst kind. So, go on and keep quoting me, and making stupid assumptions about me, because the more you do so, the more foolish you become. Keep it up. Fool.

And Jeff .. if that gets me tossed from here, then so be it. I've had enough of his shit. The gloves are off. Talk to him, or talk to me. You know how to reach me. Enough is enough.
Well said liney. FWIW...I don't care for froots crap either.

                    • Geez, as usual, your delusional rant is pretty much poppycock. I do not "rail" against oil companies, in fact I have invested heavily in XOM for going on 35 years now. With the exception of holdings within an S&P 500 and a Total Market index fund, I do not have any investment in 'green' technology. (Nor do I care to.) If the price of oil drops to $50/bbl, XOM still makes money hand over fist, both upstream and downstream production. They charge what the market will bear. Period.

Demand was, on a global scale, largely unaffected by $5/gal gas. Vacation by car cut back, but that's about it. The pandemic affected commercial aviation consumption for sure, but the consumption level remained the same with refined fuel spike. Cost was simply passed on to the consumer. People who couldn't work from home felt the $5 gas, commuters gotta commute. Didn't change demand. Increased pain in the wallet but no significant change in demand. When Ukraine became the excuse de jour for $100/bbl oil, everybody jumped on the gravy wagon, there wasn't any increased demand that justified it, just the opportunity for profit. China and India are paying the Russians about $60/bbl for oil. Cold hard cash to keep the orc war machine going. OPEC and the oil companies are colluding to keep the prices high. Much better profit margin this way.

To say the Biden administration 'crushed' supply is one of your more laughable statements this year. You really need to step outside the propaganda echo chamber. Pick a pipeline, it has had no impact on production. Take Keystone XL. The tar sands oil was destined for export, not North American consumption. KSXL's goal was to bring the oil to the Gulf instead of the Pacific for export. Not a drop was slated for the US. Refineries, in this case XOM's 21 facilities, are all running in excess of 94% capacity. Why would they build more refineries? To increase supply and drive prices down? That's an economic decision, it has nothing to do with Biden - XOM is not building any more refineries, who cares what Biden's policy is. But that reality doesn't square with rightwing propaganda.

"The whole climate change farce is about transferring money from working people to entities that line the pocket of D donors, who then "donate" to The Party." That is too stupid and inaccurate to even respond to. Along the lines of believing in the tooth fairy.

Indeed. Why would any oil company build a new refinery, thereby expending billions on a long-term commitment when the Party running our country is committed to eliminated that very industry.

Again, Progs and Ds WANT high fossil fuel costs. Full stop. There's is exactly no debate about that.

Quite a badge of honor to be called stupid by you. Froot-level stuff.

                              1. People who couldn't work from home felt the $5 gas, commuters gotta commute. Didn't change demand. Increased pain in the wallet but no significant change in demand. Just stating it didn't change demand

Well, those commuters had to commute, and some of them decided not to. I refuse to believe you are talking about the change in demand versus change in the quantity demanded. That is a concept in economics well above your intelligence level. In any event, I specified "quantity" demanded, not the demand curve itself.

                              2. . Pick a pipeline, it has had no impact on production.

Well, pipelines do not increase the production of oil at the wellhead. But they certainly affect the production of the final product, gasoline.

                              3. Take Keystone XL. The tar sands oil was destined for export, not North American consumption. KSXL's goal was to bring the oil to the Gulf instead of the Pacific for export. Not a drop was slated for the US. Refineries

The fact of the matter is that refineries to handle the heavy oil were built when Venezuela was a substantial exporter of heavy oil. When Venezuela adopted socialism, their oil production fell dramatically. Concurrently, the Canadians found large deposits oof heavy oil in the Alberta tar sands that could only be refined in the specialized refineries in the Gulf Coast. That is why the Keystone was necessary. I'll never know where you get your information, but again, just think. Why would Canada want to ship the Alberta oil from American ports when they could ship from Canadian ports? Why not go directly to a Pacific coast port and ship it to China. It's the refineries (banned in Canada) that make the Keystone financially viable. BTW, we would be getting 100,000 bl/day from Alberta by now if Biden had not stopped the Keystone.

                              4. n this case XOM's 21 facilities, are all running in excess of 94% capacity. Why would they build more refineries? To increase supply and drive prices down? That's an economic decision, it has nothing to do with Biden - XOM is not building any more refineries, who cares what Biden's policy is. But that reality doesn't square with rightwing propaganda.

They would build more refineries to make more money. Or maybe there are enough large holders of the stock like you who want XOM to go green.

But building additional refining capacity has been effectively banned by the government through crazy regulation.

I might also mention that there are other oil companies that might want to build refineries. You oil barons may only care about XOM, but Chevron IS in the business in their own piddling sort of a way.

5."The whole climate change farce is about transferring money from working people to entities that line the pocket of D donors, who then "donate" to The Party." That is too stupid and inaccurate to even respond to. Along the lines of believing in the tooth fairy

Why is it that you progs never deal with the obvious question of why we are building massive Green infrastructure for wind and solar when it is not economic? Why pay four times as much for a KW of electricity when we have almost unlimited fossil fuel to produce at 1/4 the price? Why force folks into EVs when the batteries contain such toxic materials that we cannot make them in the US by law? And why do the Greens adamantly oppose nuclear power and hydroelectric power, if CO2 is a concern? It's because there is no money to be stolen from already proven technologies. Why don't you care about CO2 produced in China? (who is the supplier of all things Green, what could possibly go wrong?)

No, what is going on here is massive transfers of wealth to China and to Democrat donors who have invested heavily in green technology there. On Friday, the House passed a bill to funnel another $ 400 Billion into subsidies for green energy. Who do you think gets that money? Wiz and I and liney have to work for our money and it gets taken and sent to Dem investors and then rerouted to Dem party politicians. The same type of scam has been going on with government employees like teachers for the last 40 years or so.

Again, focus: Why is it preferable to produce energy at four times the actual cost of the alternative? Why not use nuclear if CO2 is a problem? Follow the money.
