Bush playbook of campaigning and steer clear of the W playbook of governing.
This coalition that you speak of is precisely what Trump built when he got the nomination. He broke the party record for primary votes without talking about "muh family values" or "what would Jesus do?" or without presenting himself credibly as an anti-abortion candidate. There is a huge common ground to be found with a platform based on nationalism and policies that ignore political correctness in favor of common sense.

The Republican Party has already tried the George W. approach every election since 1992. It has worked once in six tries. The only time that it worked was when Bush barely defeated an awful candidate in his reelection bid. He lost the popular vote in 2000. Nobody has ever gotten 50% of the Hispanic vote or anywhere close to that number when it comes to the black vote. The Republicans supported Amnesty 1.0 (Simpson-Mazzoli) and George H.W. Bush won a lower percentage of the Hispanic vote than Reagan. McCain supported amnesty 2.0 and he didn't get close to 50% either. I don't remember Romney ever insulting anyone and he got a lower percentage of the minority vote than Trump is currently polling at.

George W. is the gold standard of pandering by Republicans and he got less than 50% of the Hispanic vote. You can't pander more than he did. Any Republican who still thinks that pandering to minorities is going to win him votes is a gullible sucker. Unfortunately, Paul Ryan, John Kasich, Mitt Romney, etc all fall into that category. I would give anything for the Democrats to all be that gullible and stupid.

Then there should be no issue for Trump in the General election then.

      • IMO.. you needed 4-5 GWB's in a row to change Hispanic voters minds.. While he supported a lot of the platforms important to that demographic, most in his party did not. The trust has to be built over time.

            • Heh. Trump will win more than 13 electoral votes. I also think he'll be above 40.6%. He'll probably be around 150 w/ 42-43%.

                  • Many almost got their wish, Trump nearly assassinated at rally in Vegas.

A man arrested at a Donald Trump rally in Las Vegas over the weekend told authorities he tried to grab an officer's gun so he could kill the candidate, according to court documents released Monday.

just pathetic.. people's inability to deal with others whom they disagree with is frightening.
