Below raises good points about how McCarthy blundered by choosing to not participate. I know many of you think these hearings are a total snooze anyways, but imagine how less effective they’d be if every ten minutes a pro-Trump Republican could just talk about anything he liked?

It is already hearsay, and wouldn't be allowed in a court. The Committee did depose the SS agents in the car, so why not lead with first-person accounts. How much better it would have been to have Republicans on the committee in order to cross-examine the witness. Jim Jordan would have put the lie to this whole production.
And who is Gabriel Malor? Does he realize there is no filibuster in the House?
Well, at least froot is having orgasms over this new bombshell witness.Last edited by Da Geezer; June 28, 2022, 07:15 PM.

But it died in the Senate and couldn't overcome a filibuster. The only Republicans who voted for it were the same ones that voted for impeachment.
So then a while later Pelosi announced a Select Commission instead. It's been general practice for the minority party to pick its members BUT unlike all the permanent committees it's NOT a rule. By rule it's entirely up to the Speaker. Pelosi told McCarthy she was going to refuse to seat Jim Jordan and Jim Banks, but the other three were fine. McCarthy threw a fit and said if he can't name all 5 that he wanted, he would name no one.
This was obviously a strategy first formed when the Independent Commission was still a possibility. McCarthy may have thought all investigations would fall apart if he refused to participate. But he was wrong, Cheney and Kinzinger volunteered to throw away their careers and the Committee was properly formed by House rules. And instead of having five Trump friendly members on the Committee, they have none. That was entirely by choice. And it was a dumb decision.
But Trump himself bears blame too, not just McCarthy. He simply didn't want there to be ANY investigation.

From this updated WP article, the least "anonymous" of the pushback so far:
*******************
Three Secret Service agents who accompanied Trump are disputing that he assaulted or grabbed at the leader of his security detail or that he grabbed for the steering wheel, according to one current and one former law enforcement official familiar with their accounts. The agents do not dispute that Trump was furious and exchanged tense words with one of the agents, the two people said.
****************************
The Secret Service Agents in the car are saying, and presumably would testify, that Trump didn't grab them or try to take the wheel. They do NOT dispute that Trump was furious that they wouldn't take him to the Capitol and perhaps had an unpleasant word or two for them.

Posted mainly for Jon. A judge already reduced the charges on the guy who viciously attacked Mayor Rudy. Only 3rd degree assault now, which is a misdemeanor, and even that might not stick. And now Eric Adams and Rudy are in a war of words

Boebert won re-nomination without much trouble. Her district under the new maps is a lot more Republican than it used to be. She's probably got a safe seat in Congress for a decade if she doesn't get caught fucking a congressional page or something.
Tina Peters, the crazy election denying Recorder of Mesa County, who allowed a dude associated with Mike Lindell to steal election data, is currently running a distant third place to be nominee for Colorado Sec of State. So that's some good news. Go be an assistant night manager at the pillow factory.
