  • Trump-endorsed Michigan candidate says birth control must be banned. God's order shall be restored.

Hell, I could've posted this days ago, but i refrained because I didn't want anyone assuming I thought this wackjob was a mainstream Republican. But fuck it, no one here ever restrains themselves from posting the most insane stories about the Left. Meet the new breed of Republican. She's got some crazy eyes.

    • Also my main hope for Biden is that he finds a nice retirement home with lots of pudding to retire to.

        • Personally, I try to focus on The Chairman and his policies and words (though it’s propaganda to quote him). However, if the name of the game is to pick out nutjobs then the Left certainly has zero shortages. It’s silliness, but it’s easy.

So frolic and detour and then get back to The Chairman.

When Trump was in power and Congress was all controlled by Republicans, you chose to focus on those wacky Dems. Can we not pretend that you're immune to the power of partisanship?

This is more mean-spirited sounding than I really intend it but I won't alter it for the sake of posterity. HURRAH!

I don’t recall that, but if you say so. I did note your daily postings on DJT as overkill since, e.g., I agreed with you that he was not competent. If we can reach a forum-wide consensus that The Chairman is incompetent then I’ll reduce my use of his own words.

Every single one of these has been targeted for banning somewhere in America. Yeah, and it’s just so silly. Again, the majority of male HS students have visited PornHub (etc). 4Chan, Reddit, and SnapChat and seen content that would make any of the books on your list blush. Worrying about “Mockingbird”, like I said a few days ago, is just stupid and good people need to put aside partisanship and attack extremist bullshit where we see it - regardless of which fringe side of the aisle it originated from.

The exception, of course, is “Catcher”. That book needs to be banned - not because of any controversial theme, but just because it’s a self-indulgent piece of shit.

                    • It's pretty clear that political and law breaking extremism is on the margins but it gets all the press. Cover that shit as much as it is covered really does shape a false realty depicting American polity

But to talent's point, Biden has fucked things up, including his statement he made at yesterdays conclave of Asian economies that the US would intervene militarily if Taiwan was attacked by China ..... abandoning a long standing position of ambiguity on US military intentions in Taiwan, that statement is already being walked back by State and WH spokespersons.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. JH chased Saban from Alabama and caused Day, at the point of the OSU AD's gun, to make major changes to his staff just to beat Michigan. Love it. It's Moore!!!! time

                      • Bill Maher is continually distancing himself from the wacky left though he will never vote R because he hates that party on issues like climate change. Fair enough.

I should probably post the monologue, but I'll just go with the write-up of Maher on Trans kids: https://www.nationalreview.com/corne...-culture-wars/ or, alternatively, just the transcript: https://www.realclearpolitics.com/vi...t_bigotry.html

His points are the points most folks would make when supporting, e.g., the DeSantis bill to stop schools from pushing sex change talk on kindergartners that, for some reason, the Ds want to do.

That is absurd. Conservatives want power atomized, and don't support banning great books. What these books have in common is that they show America in a good light, as a trying-to-be non-racist country. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus Finch defends a black man during a time when a black man could be discriminated against. This flies profoundly in the face of everything the Democrat party is trying to do with CRT in the schools. That is why it is being banned in Seattle BY THE PROGS. TKaM was a seminal work in the Civil Rights Movement, but the thought of whites and blacks marching together, arms linked, in a righteous cause, is anathema to today's Dems.

Banning a book because it contains the word "nigger" or because it has explicit sexual scenes is just a cover, IMO. Banning the above books is done overwhelmingly by Progs because the books actually reflect an America that is sometimes wrong, but trying to improve. I've read all of the above except The Awakening, and for the life of me, I can't see anything wrong with them being taught in schools. But destroying the history of a country is essential for American Marxism to flourish, so these and many others (Huck Finn, Tom Sawyer, and Dr. Suess) are banned by the left.

Now, specifically, CGVT and DSL, What is wrong with preschool children reading De. Suess, or having it read to them?

                            • Woof, the idea that conservatives never ban great books is so profoundly untrue and a demonstrably false that I don't know where to begin. Unless you're making a "no true Scotsman" argument. Nothing banned by conservatives could've possibly been great because conservatives don't ban great books.

Do you think places like Scottsboro, AL, Salina, KS, and Knoxville, TN are profoundly liberal? I took just a few of the reasons and places people tried to get Of Mice and Men banned from libraries and classroom use (sometimes successfully). I don't think liberals were the ones bringing challenges like the ones below.
                              • Banned from classroom use at the Scottsboro, AL Skyline High School (1983) due to "profanity." The Knoxville, TN School Board chairman vowed to have "filthy books" removed from Knoxville's public schools (1984) and picked Steinbeck's novel as the first target due to "its vulgar language."
                              • Challenged, but retained in a Salina, KS (1990) tenth grade English class despite concerns that it contains "profanity" and "takes the Lord's name in vain."
                              • Challenged at the Jacksboro, TN High School (1991) because the novel contains "blasphemous" language, excessive cursing, and sexual overtones.
                              • Challenged in the Waterloo, IA schools (1992) and the Duval County, FL public school libraries (1992) because of profanity, lurid passages about sex, and statements defamatory to minorities, God, women, and the disabled.
                              • Banned from the George County, MS schools (2002) because of profanity. Challenged in the Normal, IL Community High Schools (2003) because the books contains "racial slurs, profanity, violence, and does not represent traditional values."
All that said, sure, liberals are into the book-banning racket now. Social Conservatives used to have a firm grip on that market but not so much anymore.

Also, let us concentrate on this masterpiece and how it should be read and studied at every level of education:
