Both sides have a long history of questioning election results. Let’s not forget that Al Gore didn’t actually concede in a timely and graceful fashion. Hell, he carried it to the FLSpCt. And to this day, his supporters will mention hanging chads and shenanigans with the results and ruling.
But the pearl-clutching by the Left at the Trumpsters not accepting that it was a fair result unravels the very fabric of democracy or some such."The problem with quotes on the Internet is that it is sometimes hard to verify their authenticity." -Abraham Lincoln

A lot of folks thought there was funny business in 2004 as well, though to a lesser extent than 2000 and 2020. Bottom line is everyone hates to lose a close one. In sports, they usually point to a dubious call by the refs as the reason for the loss. Same happens in politics but rather than the referee that draws the ire of the loser, it's election officials who clearly didn't run a clean election.

Trump supposedly started some sort of 'insurrection' where people with antlers and furs stormed thru the Capitol and took numerous selfies, causing our democracy to teeter on the edge of oblivion. One unarmed protester was shot and killed by an over zealous public servant.
But, that's no big deal.
* Trump filed 60+ frivolous, lawsuits in countless states and tried to get the Supreme Court to intervene and declare him the winner.
* Trump sent out goon squads to a dozen or so states to drum up half-assed "evidence" of election fraud that mostly took the form of worthless affidavits from liquored up or tinfoil wearing Trump hyper-partisans.
* Trump gave a platform to absolute batshit conspiracy theories, including that Venezuela was rigging our elections via Dominion voting machines, even in states & counties that don't use Dominion voting machines. His team held daily press conference to spew idiotic nonsense
* Trump launched an intense pressure campaign on even the most obscure local officials, making personal phone calls to county election officials, demanding they either find him the votes or refuse to certify the election.
* Trump invited into the Oval Office people who were presenting him with crackpot ideas about declaring martial law, ordering the military to seize voting machines, and eventually the notion that Mike Pence has the singular power to reject any electoral votes he wishes. That began a pressure campaign on Mike Pence that was relentless in the week right before Jan. 6.
* It seems pretty clear that the White House was working with Jeffrey Clark at the DOJ to try and fire the Department's leadership, install Clark as Acting Attorney General, who would then declare that the election had been stolen, an investigation was underway, blah blah blah. This only fell apart because too many people at DOJ threatened to immediately resign but also (allegedly) the entire White House Counsel's office too.
* Trump urged tens of thousands of supporters to be in DC on Jan. 6, hinting that something "big" would happen. After 2 hours of his most loyal supporters haranguing the crowd about talk of fraud, and how they needed to prepare for battle, and now was the decisive moment, and blah blah blah, Trump pointed at the Capitol building and said the people down the street are stealing the election. Why don't we march (I'm going too) down there and let them know what we think of them?
* Trump will obviously never concede and gets interviewed far more often than Abrams does so obviously, he's got a platform to continue bitching about this every single day. And he does. You cannot get an endorsement from Donald Trump without parroting his election fraud bullshit.
I do not believe whatever Abrams actually did is comparable to all that.

Again, the Abrams stuff was fundamentally local and backwards-looking. The Chairman's and The Party Jim Crow Voter Suppression bullshit is national and forward-looking. It seeks to delegitimize any election in any state that passed laws The Party disapproves of...and, of course, where The Party loses.
That's the far worse thing, IMO, on the The Party's side of the ledger.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?

That said, I rather love the fact that The Chairman's soon-to-be new press secretary called the 2016 election a "stolen election" and "a deplorable illegitimate president." She also, obviously, said about Abrams loss to Kemp..."Reminder: Brian Kemp stole the gubernatorial election from Georgians and Stacey Abrams."
I would think it's a bad look for The Chairman and The Party, but, of course, she's an AA women, so you know, identity politics trumps all. And, let's be honest -- she's just echoing The Party's positions and, of course, The Party's ancillary position is that it's ok for The Party to scream "stolen election" if it's "true".Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
