  • The Genocide characterization of Putin's Special Military Operation in Ukraine is getting some international traction ..... no surprise, not in France. The MSM picked up on what I posted a few days ago that the signtores of the Genocide Convention are prompted in the face of it to use political and humanitarian efforts to prevent it. The Convention goes on to state, through amendments subsequent to the Balkan wars, that failing political and humanitarian efforts to stop it, military force can be authorized. This is how air-strikes in Kosovo against the Serbs, carried out by US forces, were authorized.

The amendments specifically deal with the situation being experienced right now with a signtore to the Conventions, in this case Russia, might veto a necessary UNSC resolution to use force. The veto can be overridden by a simple majority in favor. IMO, because the UN is both infiltrated by leftists and weak, the chances of military force being authorized by the UN, through this convention and then an over-ride of a Russian and Chinese veto of a UNSC resolution to authorize force will never happen. Talk will continue. Action, other than what's underway in the form of sanctions and aid, won't.

        • Evidence is mounting that the Russian special military operation in Ukraine is a massive cluster fuck of incompetence. What naval force fails to protect it's flagship cruiser - the one that's been lobbing cruise missiles from it's deck into various Ukrainian cities, from an anti-ship missile attack?

I know about this shit from my time aboard aircraft carriers operating in proximity to to the potential for a Russian anti-ship missile to be fired at the battle group (2 carriers, multiple destroyers and cruisers and a couple of subs). The Moskva was the Black Sea Fleet's flagship among an assortment of a large number of offensive and support ships. USN Strategy is to command the airspace over the US counterpart CTG. How this is done includes a layered approach of carrier deck launched patrol aircraft, airborne C3 and ship born anit-ship missile defenses. That Ukraine, if reports are accurate, got to what is a Naval chess board's king - the Moskva - demonstrates a stunning lack of both respect for Ukrainian capabilities and capacity of Russia to provide a layered defense of its Black Sea Fleet.

Anyway, it seems to me that the west's collective strategy is to rely on Russian incompetence - clearly demonstrated over the last 6w - to arrive at some level of a negotiated settlement involving a cease fire. I get it. I'm less patient and am disgusted at the west's (mainly NATO's) talk in the face of the human catastrophe playing out to stay on the sidelines. Just from what I can gain from intelligence in the public domain, if NATO mounted a full scale counteroffensive in Ukraine, it would be bad news for Putin. Frankly, I see that as the only way, albeit costly and not without risks of initiating an unconventional battlefield exchange, as the only way to restore Ukraine's boarders.

Yep, that's a pretty big loss for them. Next to the Admiral Kuznetsov (a ski-slope carrier which has been pretty much a nightmare for them) and nuclear-powered Peter the Great battlecruiser, the those Slava-class cruisers (like the Moskva),are about their most capable surface ships- at least offensively. But take a hit, OR start a fire, and they've got problems.

            • Also, with regard to France ........

Marine Le Pen, the French presidential candidate, said she would back a “strategic rapprochement” between NATO and Russia once the war in Ukraine is over, and that, if elected, she would pull France from the alliance’s military command. She said she was motivated by a desire to keep Russia from becoming too cosy with China. Ms Le Pen has long had friendly relations with the Kremlin, and endorsed Russia’s annexation of Crimea.

              Fuck the frogs.

                  • Meanwhile, Marine, you dumb fuck, ..........

Dmitry Medvedev, the former Russian prime minister, warned that if Finland and Sweden joined NATO there would be “no more talk” of nuclear-free Baltics. Lithuania’s prime minister, Ingrida Simonyte, cast off the threat as “nothing new”. Her defence minister said that there were already nuclear weapons in Kaliningrad, a Russian exclave on the Baltic sea, 100km from Lithuania’s borders. “They use it as a threat,” said Arvydas Anusauskas.

So, your plan, if elected, Marine, is to push for Europe to disarm in the face of the most aggressive, expansionist Russian global strategy since the Brezhnev/Adropov/Chernenko era that ended in 1984 with Gorbachev and Glasnost? OK.

                          • Finally this morning, in case those among us that have pursued vaccination and are not following this .......... should you pursue a 4th jab?

The data for and against is derived from stronger data being presented in several studies in the UK and Israel. The short answer is:
                            • Among otherwise healthy individuals there is benefit in a 4th jab for those over 65. The studies did not select for age or co-morbid conditions. Neutralizing ABs increased 4 fold for over 65s after receiving a 4th jab.
                            • In all cases following the administration of the Pfizer or Moderna two shot series in the over 65 cohort, a 3rd jab (booster) reduced the risk of hospitalizations by 4-5 fold. A 4th jab did not appreciably lower that risk further.
                            • A 4th jab in the over 65s lowered the risk of infection considerably but that benefit waned in 4-5 weeks. The risk reduction in hospitalizations after the 3rd jab persisted for the duration of the study (15w)
                            • In another Israelis study, young health care workers received a 4th jab and after two weeks passed, no appreciable gain in neutralizing ABs was seen.
This is a pretty good article discussing the current state of the research:

What are COVID-19 antibodies, is there a certain level needed for protection, and how well do COVID-19 vaccines work in people with cancer? In this Q&A, NCI experts discuss emerging research findings from the SeroNet program that are shedding light on these and other important questions.

Yep, whether the Ukrainians got it or it's just more Russian incompetence, it's out of the war either way. Sounds like it may still be afloat but capsized. Russia also claiming that no one died, which obviously must be taken with a grain of salt.
