    • Wizzie already downgraded from Ketchup to Catsup. Gonna have to go down a peg again to Kaczep, a Turkish off-brand. But it's a big risk. You're toying with the favorite wing sauce of North Platte. Will they tell the difference?

      • Something going on in Brooklyn. Several people shot at a subway station and first responders say there are multiple "undetonated devices" on scene. Looking for a black dude in a gas mask and construction vest.

At least 5 shot in Brooklyn by gunman wearing gas mask, construction vest; Suspicious devices also found - ABC7 New York (abc7ny.com)

This could end up being pretty minor but it reminds me (for the superstitious) we are entering "tragedy week", for lack of a better term for it. Lots of bad shit has happened historically in the 3rd week of April.

                  • Oklahoma signs into law an almost complete ban on abortion. Only allowed when the mother's life is in danger. Otherwise not legal at any stage and no exceptions for rape or incest. Doctors face up to ten years in prison.

They are still working on other bills in the event this law gets overturned. Including a bill that mimics the Texas "bounty" system, where private citizens can earn money by snitching on people and claiming injury in court. I would expect a lot of states to do this if they haven't already.

                    • The MSM has focused a good deal on doomism issues in Ukraine. One of the most prominent is the assignment of the NOTORIOUS "Butcher of Aleppo," Alexander Dornikof as the single commander for the Russian armed forces invading Ukraine.

AEI's Fred Kagan presented a detailed bio on General Dornikof. He was marginally involved in Chechnya as a regimental CO. He was one of three Russian generals that commanded the Russian Army in Aleppo Syria. His tenure was the shortest at 10 months. It is not possible, in fact, unlikely, he ordered the killing of civilians or the use of chemical weapons in that conflict. He has no special qualifications in urban warfare, has a career trajectory consistent with other Russian generals among his peers. He has not commanded a Russian military operation the scale of the one Putin has undertaken in Ukraine. However, he is reportedly skilled in coordinating land, sea and air operations although of much smaller scale. He is one of 3, 3 star Generals in line to replace Gerasimov as General of the Army.

Western media reports on Dornikof elevate his barbarity suggesting the killings and brutality of the Russian armed forces will get worse under his command. What we're seeing in Ukraine involving the indiscriminate targeting of civilians, civilian infrastructure and the bull-shit individual soldiers were pulling off in Bucha and proven to be pulling off in other cities is, as I wrote about in another post addressing this subject, is, first, that terror tactics are consistent with Russian military doctrine as a means of reducing a country's populace and leadership's will to resist. The scope of the killings is unprecedented but its use as Russian doctrinal tactic should be no surprise at all.

                        • In the battle space, Ukraine reports it is still defending Mariupol. The Russian DNR says they've captured that city and the boththe port and industrial areas. Due to the limited information available on the ground there, it's hard to know who's in charge. What we do know is that there can be no glory in planting a flag of either country on a a pile of rubble. The destruction is complete. It will be years before the most economically important parts of Mariupol become viable.

The Kherson area has also seen an uptick in Ukrainian counterattacks. Throughout the battle space, Ukrainian reports continue to emphasize the loss of Russian equipment, to include armor and artillery and personnel. Observers outside the MSM cast doubt on the Russian's army to overcome supply, C3 and morale problems sufficiently to mount an offensive to seize the entirety of the Luhansk and Donetsk regions. The CTR said achieving that Russian objective is "50/50 right now" despite the Russian's overwhelming numbers superiority.

Nothing big happened between the 9th and the 11th wrt Russian advances. It's clear that the pause advocates are having some impact against the go for it now crowd in the Kremlin. Putin seems more likely to be listening to the military rather than political leadership after the CF in and around Kiev. Advancing forces that are not combat ready and capable of winning is a huge risk that it appears Putin is not willing to take preferring instead to get ready and get it right. Regardless, there are a lot of obstacles for the Russian army to overcome not the least of which is the bravery and fighting spirit of the Ukrainians.
