This will be our third trip to Lisbon Portugal, once by cruise ship and twice by air. We fly TAP to Geneva and try to visit my daughter and her two kids as often as possible. Aside from the costs (probably much higher now) Switzerland is a great country to travel through. Trains go everywhere - not cheap though, less costly with travel passes if you visit long enough (like a month).

We have Portuguese friends from Porto that live in the US now but visit frequently. They exhort us to visit Porto. We've just not been there .... yet. Absolutely love Lisbon. We stay in the Old Town when we overnight (a thing TAP does at no extra charge on a through flight) .... it's actually the Alfama area or the oldest part of Lisbon. Walking distance to some great Restaurants. Get a guide. I use Tours by Locals and ask for Antonio. You can see what he offers on the Torus by Locals web site. Last trip we stayed 3d and drove in Antonio's car to Sintra - two neat castles there. https://www.sintra-portugal.com/index.html

Walked a lot of distance in Lisbon. It's pedestrian friendly and not so huge you can't see most of the best spots walking. He also picks us up and drops us off at the airport. Super nice guy. He highly recommends visiting Porto. That's also one of those TAP stop over points. Next time.

Philadelphia has reinstated an indoor mask mandate. They have 142 cases today which represents a 70% increase in the cities 7d averages. No new hospitalizations. The CDC includes a rise in this metric before considering mitigation measures in areas of low transmission risk. That' correctly describes the city of Philly...... not surprisingly the mayor announced that the indoor mask mandate was put in place now to get ahead of an outbreak due the "disproportionate" number of blacks in our city which have carried a "much greater health burden "" during the pandemic.

There's a suggestion this evening that goes beyond rumor or propaganda that in Donetsk the Russians employed anti-riot agents laced with nerve agents (organophosphates). Also, reportedly, there are calls from Chechnyan commanders in Mairupol that given the dug in nature of the Ukrainian forces in the western port area of Mariupol and the Industrial area there and the inability of the Russian forces to dislodge them that chemical weapons be employed.

I don't know how far the Russians need to go before it's obvious that to stop them from the barbarity, NATO is going to have to engage at some level.
