Putin is a nationalist with expansionist aims intended to restore, step by step, the former USSR humiliated after it's collapse,1988-91. Obviously, he ain't exterminating Jews but he does like to do that with his political opponents. By doing that, Putin, who, at first, did use nationalism to elevate himself politically, like Hitler after assuring his leadership position, Putin now manages a police state, trying outwardly to make it look democratic to his citizenry and the world, meanwhile ruthlessly suppressing all political opposition to his rule.
