  • That should get filed away in the "no fucking shit" category or, perhaps, "where have you been?" category. Nonetheless, if the NYT sees fit to run opinion pieces that are trying to shake the elites out of their Covid Zero fear comas, then great. I welcome it.

    • Actually, on time for the party but left a bag of shit on the porch, lit it on fire, rang the doorbell and left .........

CDC updated isolation and quarantine guidance today in time for the evening news cycle without taking shit for the confusion they will have wrought. It's too fucking complex to post - a nice algorithm would be nice but, no, that would be too simple.

The most important part is that if you test +, isolate for 5d then you can return to work (additional conditions and requirements apply). If you are notified you were exposed (close contact) and you don't have symptoms you don't have to quarantine (additional conditions and requirements apply). My take is if you just follow those two measures and ignore the additional conditions and requirements, it might be ..... MIGHT BE helpful.

For the public it's just more confusion. For employers, private and public, it does help get staff back on the job. The Airlines are getting fucked by the rise in new infections with staff call outs that before the 5d guidance thing was 10 to 14 depending on, well, who knows.

A good alternative to the bag of burning shit on the front porch would have been to simply say, you're going to see a lot of new COVID cases in the next few weeks. They'll climb and then decline just like all the SARS2 variants have. This is life for a while but. "we got dis." If you are still fearful, read this:

If your vaxed and especially if your boosted, the probability of you catching this thing is low. The probability of you getting really sick from it is lower still. You might feel like you have the cold or flu and by-God you just might so don't freak out. If you're worried about it, get tested then stay home for 5d if the test comes back positive. Go to your local pharmacy and buy some OTC cold and flu medicine. If you are vaxed, boosted, healthy and under 80 you can return to normal routines. If you are older, unvaxed and/or un-healthy, talk to your doc about how to proceed. The rest of you, travel, dine out or take a vacation somewhere. The travel and leisure sector needs your money. Now get out there and enjoy 2022.

It’s always reassuring to see the experts figure out what us ignorant unwashed masses figured out about 18 months ago.

        • This mornings Economist headline:

More than 1.4m covid-19 infections were recorded worldwide on Monday, a new daily record, thanks to the increased transmissibility of the Omicron variant. The seven-day rolling average of infections is also at its highest-ever level. The number of daily deaths has not seen a similar increase, remaining at a relatively consistent level since mid-October.............

Hospitalizations are also staying about the same across regions. Yet, we're experiencing what are being termed "soft lockdowns" as COVID fear permeates every corner of society with retailers closing their doors and holiday events being cancelled.

Miami Dade Co. is reporting measures of hospital capacity at ranges of 1/4 to 1/2 full capacity. Where are Miami Dade Co. hospitals "stretched to the limits?" Yesterday the CDC came around, if not with too little too late, and shortened the guidance for quarantine and isolation. Why? Because Omicron does not produce COVID related disease sufficiently serious to justify keeping workers off the job for up to two weeks - in fact, neither did Delta.

We are at a point where for most, you're going to get cold symptoms. The pandemic, if it is to be defined by getting pretty damn sick, is nearing if not already at it's end but the messaging of fear that permeates official and MSM announcements/reporting is prolonging it.

          • Yeah, if you're "young" and typically healthy or older and vaccinated then your fear meter should be at about a zero.

You should double mask while you shit.

Scratch that — you should triple mask. And tape up all the edges.

                    • What Dave is pointing to is that Hamilton County, the home of Cincinnati, has gone from being divided into two districts to three in the new GOP drawn map. And the city of Cincinnati is still attached to ALL of very conservative Warren County by a tiny land bridge to create the 1st district. It's been a blatant gerrymander in that part of the state for decades and an effort to totally dilute the political power of Cincinnati and its inner burbs.

The current court is a 4-3 (R) split but Chief Justice O'Connor has pushed back on gerrymandering in the past and sounded pretty skeptical that the GOP is all good. She's also being forced to retire next year.

They only changed it slightly. But now Hamilton County is split three ways instead of two. Cuyahoga County is split three ways too but it's 50% bigger than Hamilton

                          • Disliked by many people but I'll go ahead and give a RIP to Harry Reid.

Reid's 30+ years in Congress were marked by defending his state & passing key legislation, including the Affordable Care Act & economic recovery measures.

                            • Trump is now issuing conditional endorsements which is hilarious.

Mike has my total and complete support unless he endorses Lisa Murkowski in which case consider this endorsement null and void.
