OP with his panties in a bunch over, of all things, the plight of the working classes? Didn't even know it was possible! You know you've taken it too far when that happens.

People who bring up the bogeyman of Greece in regards to the USA clearly don't understand the issues regarding Greece and the problems with the Euro. Even if somehow the dollar ceases being the reserve currency, it doesn't cease being the dollar. Greece has no central bank to devalue their currency. They have to rely on Angela Merkel, the ECB and all of the other members. And all of those governments were under the stupid idea of austerity.
Europe is suddenly extremely interesting again.

The closer you get, the more time and money they spend looking into your background. I wonder, in this case though, whether Fox wants to speed up the process in hopes of sinking him and getting another candidate in there.

          • Gordie Howe just passed. RIP.

Any of you MI-based ppl following with the third-bridge/Matty Mouroun fight? Fascinating story, but can't think of a better name to use for the new bridge than Howe's.

            • Its going to go both ways...the GOP and its affiliates have been building their anti-Hillary battleplan for ten years. They have probably spent more time and money on it than Hindenberg's preparations to invade France.

We'll be on a regular cycle of pre-planned faux crisies of conscience and moral fiber from now until November. Oh goodie.

                Absolutely.

Its too bad that Gordie won't be around to cut the ribbon the day it opens for traffic.

He was one of the last real "good guys" of professional sports. A real class act.

Greece having no central bank to devalue their currency has absolutely nothing to do with the dynamic of Socliaism failing when you run out of other people's money to spend. Printing extra money has been tried before too. The Roman empire devalued their currency and so did the Weimar Republic. Ask Germany how well that worked out for them.

Here is a good history showing the skyrocketing relationship in the US between government spending and GDP. It's a few years old but I am pretty sure that we are up in the 30s now. Greece historically has hovered at around 50%. That's more than the US during WWII! Where are we going to be when we add higher education to the list of goods and services that the government pays for? Where will we be when we add another 20, 30, 40, or 50 million uneducated, unskilled immigrants to the welfare rolls via open borders and amnesty while we strangle the economy with more anti fossil fuel regulations?

So yeah, keep clinging to that fantasy that cracking down on the evil bankers is going to make Socialism work in the United States. Promise, pinky swear -- we're going to get it right this time! Don't worry, guys, we'll pay for everyone's health care, food stamps, infrastructure, and housing by devaluing our currency and rendering your entire life savings and 401K completely worthless. Yeah, that'll work.

                        • I wonder if there is a correlation between gov't aide for college and the price of college? I wonder if more aide resulted in colleges trying to grab a larger share of that pie... and hence, increased prices.

Or 500% since FDR was elected.

I think the trend is pretty clear and significant. Whether you think it matters or not is another story, but poo-pooing it is stupid, IMO.

                            • IDK...the increase in the number of college students is technically the culprit, and that has been driven by increased competition in the workforce which has made the BA the new HS diploma. Almost everybody expects to go to college now, in some form or another...that wasn?t the case even when I graduated HS in the 90s.

Some of that is assisted by government programs, but not all.

LOL -- you actually wonder that? I think it's absolute, direct correlation.
