Allow me to turn things to my pet crusade against public financing of pro stadiums. Some may recall that Cobb County managed to lure the Braves out of their decrepit 20-year old stadium in downtown Atlanta by promising them a brand new state-of-the-art park. This took place without any public vote. Commissioners promised no one's taxes would go up to pay for the stadium. So they used money allocated for for public parks to pay for the stadium and now the commissioners say taxes must go up in order to continue supporting the public parks system.
What a switcheroo!! We never said we wouldn't have to raise taxes to keep the parks and schools open!! Hell, I'd reelect these guys just for the massive amount of chutzpah.

Sounds like what they did many years ago in Michigan, when they wanted to institute the Lottery system.
We were told that all the monies from the Lottery would go to schools.
Well, they did follow thru on that... the monies did go to schools ....
But, .. they took the monies that HAD BEEN going to schools, and redirected them to other programs, including pay increases for state employees and legislators.
So, .. what we ended up with was a SHIFT in funds, not an addition of funds to schools, .. which is what about 100% of the voters thought they were doing.
And politicians wonder why voters will not support new tax increases."in order to lead America you must love America"

Sounds similar to how whenever a municipality wants to raise taxes nowadays, they threaten to cut the police and the fire departments, because they totally can't find anywhere else to cut funding, even though they are collecting more taxes than they did five years ago.

I always thought DSL's pet crusades were against the McGriddle, Brown "University", and Art Modell. I guess our Ithaca A&M boy has another.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?

Incidentally, Hillary Clinton has now won 54.8% of the elected delegates, 56.8% of the popular vote, 92.2% of the super delegates and 28 states including California, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Florida.
In what fucking world does Bernie Sanders, a socialist, not even a D, have any plausible claim to the nomination? I mean, it's not even close. 2008 -- that was close. This? Not so much.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?

I liked this article about Judge Curiel: http://www.nationalreview.com/articl...k-trump-attack
Admittedly, it conforms to my opinion of most District Court judges, so perhaps it's confirmation bias on my part, but I have a really hard time thinking Trump is anything other than absolutely wrong.
Throw in the crass identity politics play, and it's a really bad look in my book.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?

Re: Publically financed stadiums/arenas, hopefully that bubble is bursting but in most cases, the cities still cave to the demands of their billionaire overlord and give him a new stadium. If municipalities all at once refused to fund any future stadium projects, professional sports would still go on.
