        • Tucker Carlson speaks to the injustices suffered by Rittenhouse - all of that is accurate. He mentions the Kenosha police doing nothing to stop the already ongoing rioting, looting and burning. TBH, once shit like that get's underway, it becomes increasingly difficult to control and then stop it. Larger police presence is usually necessary. The failure of the Kenosha police department and probably the mayor's office who was undoubtedly involved in the decision by the police to not intervene to enforce the law and restore order is as important a story as Rittenhouse's. City officials had to be forewarned. This didn't just happen just like it didn't just happen in many US cities last summer

Where are calls to investigate this government malfeasance that not only has been exposed in the Rittenhouse trial but happened in countless American cities last summer? All of it prompted by the George Floyd murder at the hands of police and the irresponsible anti-police narrative that was born and has gotten us to the point we are now - forget about the sworn duty of city government officials to protect and defend the US and state constitutions and uphold the law. If they are not going to be held accountable and punished, this will continue.

FFS - not holding city and state officials who let the disorder, property destruction and lawlessness happen is a far worse crime in terms of the damage done than anything that happened at the Capitol on January 6th ...... the one that is right now prompting criminal charges and jail time for those involved. Fine, enforce the law and hold those who broke it on January 6th accountable. But, the US justice Department should be called to task to investigate government officials of the cities were civil disorder and lawlessness was consciously permitted to occur. The US Congress needs to step up and demand investigations. The media needs to be talking about that and hitting it hard.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

          • Richard "Lowtax" Kyanka has died. He was just 45. Reportedly a suicide. From what little I've read the last few years haven't been great to him (possible addiction, domestic abuse allegations)

He's not a household name but he created a website called Something Awful in 1999. Back before there was social media or even YouTube, the message boards at Something Awful had a huge impact on shaping internet culture as we know it today. All Your Base Are Belong to Us, one of the earliest memes that I can remember, originated at SA. The site invented the SlenderMan phenomenon, was among the first to post gamer "Let's Play" style videos, and just was hugely influential on what's come afterwards whether people know it or not.

A lot of it truly WAS awful. In the early-2000's Kyanka got sick of all the anime porn being posted so he banned it all. A bunch of people left and created what would become 4chan.

Anyway, the passing of someone who directly or indirectly had a profound role in shaping the hellsite the internet has become.

            • No shit. Wow. Yes, he had lots of problems. Two divorces and a really bad ambien habit. It's a shame because he could have been a mogul like Zuckerberg. Was never totally right in the head. I was a huge visitor of SA back in the early oughts when it was good. The forums were excellent sources of humor until the mods wrecked them and Lowtax abandoned them. I agree he is possibly the most influential creator in the history of the internet.

              • I could not begin to tell you what the "Baltic Dry Index" was before this article, which suggests that Inflation may have peaked in October

As I understand it the BDI measures international shipping rates. Since Oct. 7 (when BDI peaked) it has dropped by over 50%. Unlike CPI, which is retrospective, the BDI is more real-time. So the guys in the article claim it could be an indication the worst is over. But we'll find out I guess.

He's almost certainly more important to the history of internet, for good and bad, than someone like Zuckerberg who just created a platform. It's going too far to say he invented memes, but I can't think of another influential site that popularized them as early as he did. And that's just like one thing that'll endure long after Facebook or Twitter shuts down.

I agree this will continue. And a staple you will start seeing at your local riots are going to be armed militia. Good people who care about their community are going to protect their own

Specifically in this case, the mayor, detective and prosecutor are all members of the same family. Part of me believes they went after Rittenhouse like they have to distract from the Mayor's criminal failure to protect his city. When you lock up an innocent kid for life to cover your own ass.

I actually read My Tank is Fight and then my son read it when he was 12. We both loved it.
